To ask if anyone shares this weird childhood memory

I have this really vivid recollection of being about four years old, just before Christmas, and during the children's programmes, an advert came on TV. It showed a picture of three annuals - Look-In, Wind in the Willows, and another title that I can't remember nearly forty years later😜

In my memory the voiceover said 'if you want one of these, wish really hard and Santa will bring it.' I have a very vivid recollection of wishing like buggery.

I know I'm probably misremembering the script BUT I was hugely surprised to actually get the WITW annual (those Weasels were scary, man). And I don't know if I would have been so dumbfounded if I'd written it on my list.

What's weird to me to this day is that four year old me felt like my wish, delivered in front of the TV, is what did the job.

So, AIBU to ask, was anyone else tripping balls in 1984/5, and can remember this? Did you also summon TV tie-in reading material with the power of the mind?

Many thanks!

I was born in 1984 so wouldn't remember it but how fantastic that you wished and got it.

I remember sitting on the toilet when I was about 4 wishing really hard that my tiny tears doll would come alive. 😂
My mum told me a few days later she was pregnant with my sister so I was secretly convinced my wish came true

Its funny how 4 year old’s minds work!

WonderingWanda · 02/03/2024 07:01

I had the annual but...agree about the weasels...but no recollection of the advert. Had Noddy, Rupert and Rainbow bright annuals at various times too!

@SmileyClare awww that's such cute timing! Were you pleased with your 'doll' when it arrived? 😁

LittleRedY0shi · 02/03/2024 07:31

Even as a (usually logical) adult, I'm miffed that your childhood TV advert wish came true and mine didn't! Mine wasn't the same ad - there was one for McDonalds (the ultimate treat back then) where a kid my age was looking out the window on a rainy day. He snapped his fingers and Ronald McDonald appeared, he did it again and a Happy Meal appeared. I figured I could learn to do this myself and spent so much time trying to make it happen!

Yes-I was! I used to pull her about like a dolly too- poor thing! Still really close with my baby sister now.

Luckily for my mum, I didn’t keep making her have babies with the magic power of my mind 😂

Feeling really sorry for @LittleRedY0shi wishing a McDonald’s would appear.

Disappointments like that seemed massive when you were small. So unfair.

Good thread op. I'm vicariously enjoying your memories - good stories! Sympathy for @LittleRedY0shi !
Sorry I don't have one to offer myself
