To spend the day in bed, ill?

I feel a bit guilty.

My 6 yo has been off school for 2 days with a sickness bug, and last night, I started with it. It's been horrendous, think both ends, muscle aches, fever, fatigue. He took the day off work today to help out with 6 yo who is still off and nursery runs for the others. I've stayed in bed all day, still feeling awful. He's got on with it with no complaints. Now it's bedtime for the kids, I've barely seen them all day and feeling guilty! But I have stayed out of everyone's way while feeling unwell, using one toilet and staying away to try and not contaminate the little ones?

As long as the kids are safely looked after then take your rest guilt free. The more the rest you get the sooner you'll be back to normal and in top shape for your kids.

@YouAndMeAndThem Get back in that bed right now and stay there till morning!😀

Tilllly · 29/02/2024 18:44

Bed 🛌
Stay there

You're allowed to be ill. Being a mother doesn't make you immune on all illness.

Your children have 2 parents, and today the other one had to do all the work. I'm sure you'll do all the work next time he is ill. That's what a partnership is.

mynameiscalypso · 29/02/2024 18:47

On would planet would you be unreasonable?!

mynameiscalypso · 29/02/2024 18:48

Only the irrational one in my head 🤪 I have problems with knowing what the best thing to do is. Like being off sick from work, I'll just struggle on usually so being in bed all day is a real novelty for me. I did have to struggle all day yesterday with feeling ill as DH was at work. I was in bed by 7.30 and then up and down all night with d&v! Hopefully over the worst now anyway and can get back to being Mum again

@YouAndMeAndThem I do know that feeling! My philosophy with illness - of any kind really - is that you're much better off staying in bed/on the sofa for a day or two to give yourself time to recover than to struggle on and be ill for a much longer period of time because you haven't given yourself a break. It's counterproductive to just push on through most of the time.

Mrsjayy · 29/02/2024 18:54

you are allowed to be ill I know there is the stereotypical thing of "mum hasn't time to be ill" but honestly you can be, your Dh or Dc won't suffer because you are in bed.

GirlMum40 · 29/02/2024 20:15

I had a day in bed a few months ago. Even though I was ill, looking back I maybe kind of enjoyed it.. Is that weird??? Now I'm better I can only dream of a day in bed doing nothing.
Anyway maybe don't take it as far as me, but don't feel bad 🤣

BananaSplitsss · 29/02/2024 20:21

I’ve been diagnosed with pneumonia. I am in bed and have been all week.
Unheard of but fuck I have been so unwell. I have not eaten in four days.

you probably enjoyed the rest would have felt indulgengent lying about all day 😃

JennyForeigner · 29/02/2024 20:41

Yeah, tummy bug over here too. Kids have had it for the last couple of days - as I read this I was deciding between trying to do a little bit of work tonight to get ahead of a day off tomorrow or just to go to bed and try to shake it. You've decided me. Bed and better.

I find shaking the guilt easier because my husband doesn't get these bugs. I don't know if my immune system got reset in pregnancy or what is going on, but the rest of us can be knee deep in snot or worse and he's taking on half of the childcare and then happily wandering off for a takeaway and a boxset.

They don't have it so bad, IMHO.

I've had pneumonia @BananaSplitsss. Absolutely awful, I hope you have someone with you and are able to take the time for recovery that you need.

Thank you so much, it’s absolutely vile. Ten times worse than covid imo.

You can almost guarantee he will have it in a day or two so he’ll get his chance for a day in bed feeling like absolute shit 🤣

And you just know I'll be 100% fed up with his whining within 2 hours 🤪🤣

Feeling a lot better tonight, been up and got washed, had a bowl of cereal, and back in bed now for an early night ready to be back to Mum tomorrow! Thanks everyone, hope anyone who is still ill in bed is feeling better soon! X

Wishing you better soon my love. Enjoy your rest, guilt free!

Don't do too much @YouAndMeAndThem
You might relapse if you start doing lots as soon as you feel a bit better

How're you today @BananaSplitsss?

Even worse than yesterday. This is horrible.
thank you for asking how I am

Tilllly · 01/03/2024 10:19

Are you drinking lots of water?

YouAndMeAndThem · 01/03/2024 11:52

Well for anyone following this, I've done the washing, loaded the dishwasher and... Now I'm crashed out feeling 💩 again! Not good but not got the luxury of DH being off today!

Drinking water although feel so sick still so it's hard going!

Durdledore · 01/03/2024 11:57

You’ve said twice that you’ll get back to being mum tomorrow so I want to say you’re still mum now. Being ill doesn’t stop you being mum. 💕
