To think I should have heard from midwife by 8 weeks?

I filled out an online self referral midwife form at 4 weeks and haven't heard anything.
I'm 8 weeks today and still waiting, is this normal or should I ring them and make sure they've received my referral form?
I don't want to pester them if they're busy but then again if my form hasn't gone through I don't want to miss out on appointments.

I'd check just in case if I were you. In my case I didn't end up with a booking in appointment until the day before my 12 week scan as they were so busy.

SUPerSaver721 · 28/02/2024 10:57

You wont be seen until 12 weeks. I wouldn't worry yet. If you havnt received a letter by 10 or 11 weeks ring your local maternity unit.

RadiatorinAugust · 28/02/2024 10:58

Yes, you should have heard by now and got a date for your booking in appointment. I’d phone them to check.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 28/02/2024 11:00

Ring them! In my trust 12 week scans aren't booked until after that appointment and if waited too long I'd have been too late for the screening tests.

Birch101 · 28/02/2024 11:01

I think it varies by trust but booking appts are normally between 8-12 weeks

There is no harm calling to confirm referral has been received and ask what their service is currently offering

Elephantswillnever · 28/02/2024 11:03

Call and check. That said I didn’t get my booking in appointment till 12 weeks. Same day as the scan. Essentially you went for scan then through to another waiting room for booking in paperwork. Then another for height and weight check. Then another waiting room for blood and urine samples. It was pretty efficient but felt very much like a conveyer belt.

AWellReadWoman · 28/02/2024 12:22

I'd give them a ring. I had to keep chasing because they had a shortage of community midwives. In my area they don't book the 12 week scan until you've had your booking appointment. So if you want screening etc might be worth chasing x

I think 8 weeks is pretty early, I'd probably leave it a fortnight and then ring.

That's not true. The dating scan and antenetal screening is done at 12 weeks, booking needs to happen before that to book all those things in.

So much misinformation on mumsnet these days!

Ithinkitstimeforbed · 28/02/2024 12:39

@houseydncf I think it depends on your area, like elephantswillnever said, I had my booking appointment and scan on the same day at 12 weeks.

to me a booking appointment at 8 weeks seems early, but there’s no harm following up to make sure you’ve not been missed.

Broodywuz · 28/02/2024 12:48

I would give them a ring, make sure they got your on-line form.
I think i had a phone appointment at about 8 weeks but didn't actually see anyone until 12 week scan

Rosesanddaisies1 · 28/02/2024 12:56

yes I'd ring. Both my booking appointments have been at 8 weeks, and I got a letter with the appointment within a week of doing the self referal.

Keha · 28/02/2024 14:31

In my area you have a booking appointment about 8-10 weeks so I would expect to have heard by now, however I think processes vary. I probably got a 12 week scan letter at 9/10 weeks .

WickWood · 28/02/2024 14:34

I'd give them a call too. I had my booking appointment on Monday and I am 9 weeks pregnant today.

TrixieFatell · 28/02/2024 16:20

In my trust we tell women that they are usually booked in at around 10 weeks. The scan is booked at the same time so not missing out on dating scan. I'd call if not heard anything by 9 weeks.
