I used to cycle some 5+ years ago. Started again about 3 weeks ago x 3 times per week. Started at 8 miles and have got up to 20 miles (1hr 40 mins). A friend has asked me to do a charity bike ride - 75 miles in 10 weeks.

I really want to do it but I consider myself pretty unfit. I’ve got 5stone to lose (already lost 3).

YABU - it’s too soon, keep training
YANBU - it will be hard but with training it’s possible

It will be tough but if you train intelligently and regularly I'd say it's possible, assuming you are able to set the pace to suit you rather than riding against the clock. If you are a past cyclist you will have muscle memory that will help you build fitness, and in 10 weeks you should have much kinder weather for training. I would invest in some really good cycle shirts because you will need to be comfortable over several hours in the saddle and if still carrying excess weight that's harder on your (ahem) undercarriage. Assuming you can get 35s under your belt in the next month and 50s the following month you should be able to step it up to 75 by May- it's only 3×25m after all. Go for it!

Great thank you. I plan on increasing by 5 miles per week so might not commit until a few more weeks to ensure I can manage it
