Any GP's/doctors/nurses on here? Female trouble is this normal?

TMI warning!
I've seen my GP about this already and was sent away with some very basic hygiene advice which I already know and practice.
No previous history but since around October 2023 I have had 3 UTIs, one in October, another at the end of December followed by another at the end of January - the last one seems to have been triggered less than 24h after intercourse.
I had to go on antibiotics for all 3 instances and the pain was quick to spread to my kidneys.
I saw my GP after the last bout in Jan and was advised on hygiene practices and sent away. I already know and practice them and have been especially meticulous since my first infection in October so this is nothing helpful to me.

We DTD last night and about an hour ago I have begun with symptoms, mainly dull ache in left lower back which is usually indicative for me.
Is this normal? My DH is a clean, hygienic person and so am I.
Is something amiss here? Is it normal to present with symptoms so soon after?
I am quite frustrated and honestly don't want to have to take more antibiotics but looks like I might have little choice on the matter again.

Oh and just to preempt any questions - I have been on here for 6+ years (pre Sistine Chapel screamer) just name changed as this is a bit embarrassing.

I hate to ask her but have you ever been tested for an STI?

CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk · 26/02/2024 16:58

It's gone to your kidneys in an hour? That seems awfully fast. Have the previous infections had samples sent to the lab or just had antibiotics prescribed?
Is think GP should definitely be referring you for a scan if they haven't already with the in quick succession to check for either stones moving from vigorous sex causing pain, adhesions, cysts or something else.
Whatever the cause I do sympathise. Urine cultures are definitely the way to go to determine the best course of action though.

I think your husband needs to be tested.

Crunchymum · 26/02/2024 17:01

It's gone to your kidneys in an hour?

She said they had sex last night (and also asked if it was normal to show symptoms so soon)

What hygiene practices did your Dr discuss with you @user1457102487 ?

Were STI's discussed?

user1457102487 · 26/02/2024 17:02

I have given a sample in Jan which came back as UTI which was sensitive to the antibiotic prescribed earlier that week. The antibiotics cleared it up as normal.

I am not sure if it has gone to my kidneys already however I can attest that the last 2 UTIs started as pain/discomfort in lower back before I had any other symptoms. I am just keeping an eye at the moment as I would not say I 1000% have one right now but the symptoms are matching up.

@Crunchymum I have been told to drink more water, also drink after DTD. Showers over baths, wiping, unscented soap, keeping it clean to be honest all standard stuff I can google myself...

Good to have a wee after sex. Stops bugs initially. However, you can go through periods of UTI's, interstitial cystitis. But could also be kidney or bladder stones. Drink more, try d mannose supplements and get 7 day antibiotics. Go back to Dr if it keeps coming back.

CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk · 26/02/2024 17:18

Sorry. Misread. Peri brain🙄.
How old are you? Maybe local oestrogen pessaries might help depending on your age?
Yes worth checking for stis and pid and weeing before and after sex all as pp rightly suggested.

nozbottheblue · 26/02/2024 17:20

Drink cranberry juice. Not known why, but it keeps utis at bay. Good luck.

user1457102487 · 26/02/2024 20:45

I've just turned 30 @CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk
I guess I'm just really unsure if it's normal for symptoms to show up so soon as PP mentioned.

Also why it is so frequent despite taking all the precautions.

Sounds like cystitis.

CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk · 26/02/2024 20:53

Its fast from my experience, are you weeing after sex?
I had persistent uti s which were caused by pelvic inflammatory disease ( which isn't always caused by ab sti- not in my case, but can be, so with getting checked for both). Ask your doctor for a scan though. My practice will always refer after three infections in close succession. It's possible that you have an infection that's not fully clearing and sex is triggering the pain for some other reason and only then are you sending if the urine for a test thinking that's the cause. Just trying to think out of the box slightly.

ThinWomansBrain · 26/02/2024 21:01

Might sound weird, but have you been tested for diabetes?
UTIs and diabetes closely linked, once my blood sugar was under control, the UTIs stopped completely.

Whowahway123 · 26/02/2024 21:02

wee after dtd & d manoose. Changed my life !
