I have noticed that there have been a lot of incredibly negative threads of late, with people complaining about anything and everything, so I thought it would be nice to counteract that with some positivity. I'll list the things that I've been grateful for lately, and I would love to hear yours, as well.

I love my local park. The people who work there are awesome, so warm and friendly, and the park is beautiful. The weather has been nicer of late so I have been there quite a lot and it makes me happy every time.

The milder weather: the crocuses and snowdrops have come out and it feels as if spring is really in the post, if not fully arrived. I love this time of year, I always savour the run up to Easter (even though I've given up chocolate for Lent!)

Chocolate!! I can't have any until Holy Saturday, but my period of abstention makes me appreciate it more, I am fantasy shopping easter eggs and will probably splurge on a super expensive one as a reward for myself.

My gorgeous wardrobe. I have been organising clothes, some to sell, some to donate, some to keep, and I keep congratulating myself on my good taste. I have some really gorgeous pieces, especially summer dresses, and I am so excited to wear them when the weather gets nicer.

My lovely husband and cat. I love them both more than life itself.

When I moved into my new house my lovely postie knocked on the door to introduce herself and hand me my post. Then two of my neighbours called by with welcome to your new home cards and one with some home made marmalade.

I'm so grateful to them all for making me feel so welcome.

My little family, and dog.

Where I live - so many wonderful walks to get out and explore and all the nature that involves.

Wine. A couple of glasses tonight where very welcome! And chocolate…

Seasons. Even the rain - without it our country wouldn’t be as green as it is.

And my waterproofs. I value those very much!

I am grateful for:

The great weather this weekend. I even managed to almost fully dry 2 loads of towels on the line.

My husband and family.

My health.

SomersetTart · 25/02/2024 20:53

@Dacadactyl I think the secret to a happy life is to take pleasure in the simple, small things like washing blowing dry on the line. What a gift in February!

My (teenage) children. They are just such good kids and great company too. Dd is in her first year at university after not having a great time at school and having a few wobbles about doing A Levels or going to university at all, and she's doing brilliantly and having a great time. Ds is working his socks off for his GCSEs.

Broodywuz · 25/02/2024 20:56

I'm grateful for my happy, healthy daughters.

Growing up in the countryside and being able to give my children the same experience.

Chocolate, oh how I love Chocolate. My jeans, maybe not so grateful 😬

Love your list OP!

I love my lovely (non-designer) wardrobe too. Sometimes I take out my favourite ones that are a bit tight and just look at them longingly 😂

So true. Sometimes I look out at my lovingly hanging laundry 😂

The fact I am not working tomorrow as it’s my birthday and I’m feeling better after a rough week last week with hypomagnesia again. I’m going to do some house stuff ahead of cleaner coming Tuesday , go to the tip with a load of stuff that’s been knocking about in the garage for weeks (my favourite - love the tip ) and spend an hour at the allotment spreading muck , mum is coming over for a cuppa and cake at some stage.

Husband has made me my favourite chicken Penang for our supper tomorrow - gone are the days when it’s wild nights out for celebrations , happy with my husband and he dog at home.

Lol, im easily pleased!!

We don't have a tumble dryer so I HATE winter because the towels take so long to dry indoors, even with the heating on and dehumidifier going.

My husband - we are getting on really well lately - he shows he loves me very much, and tries his best to look after me, and there is also still a lot of sexual desire in the relationship, which for me is very important.

My daughter is absolutely amazing and my best friend. She is clever and funny and kind and beautiful and I am so proud of her.

I am grateful that her father and I have an excellent co-parenting relationship tho not together.

Grateful that I remain close to my adult stepson even tho I am not with his dad any longer - proud of him too, he is a lovely young man.

I am grateful that I live near my wonderful parents and can help look after my dad who is unwell.
.
I am grateful for all my many amazing friends who are loyal and always there for me. Grateful that I have learned as I get older to be more selective and value friends for the right reasons.

I am grateful for my job which is SO rewarding, and different every day. It has just the right amount of challenge for me and my colleagues are lovely - it's brilliant

I am grateful for all the lovely things I have already done this year with various friends and family (trips away, theatre visits etc) and the many more I have planned, including going to the seaside with my daughter for her birthday soon which I cannot wait for!

Grateful for my hobbies, such as cooking, reading etc, and the way they help calm me if I ever become stressed.

Most of all, grateful to still be here. I nearly died due to a health issue about a year and a half ago now. And I have suffered badly from depression and been suicidal in the past. I would urge anyone who feels bad right now, please believe me, I have been SO LOW at times before, struggled badly with addiction etc - now I am sover and I have so much that is good in my life!

No tumble dryer here either! Don’t trust them ever since I incinerated a mattress protector into plasticy feeling material!

I love hanging my washing out and try to all year round, even in the winter (DH thinks I am mad!) but it smells so much nicer and is much more satisfying taking it in than having it hanging around the house all day. Other things I am thankful for are; the beautiful frosty sunny mornings we have had recently, being able to get out in the garden or go for a walk without getting soaked and coffee!

MissingMoominMamma · 25/02/2024 21:16

My job. At the grand old age of 58, I’m realising a lifelong dream of working in the outdoors.

And my dog 🥰.

This reminds me of the cherry tree I planted that my local council were giving away. It was my first time planting anything.

I go out to water it every few days and every new tiny bud is a joy.

I am thankful for cheese 🧀 😋

Also thankful for being able to foster scared/nervous cats from my local animal shelter, bring them out of their shells and get them used to being around people so they can get their lovely forever homes. Foster cat number 33 went to his new home this week 😊

I'm also very grateful that I met my idol this week. It was so unexpected and I still can't believe it, he was lovely ❤️

My husband: we met in our 40s after some bad times for both of us, and despite health problems we’re immensely happy together. Comparing with our past experiences makes us very tolerant of each other’s flaws!

The birds that come to our feeders in the garden, and having time to watch them.

Medical care and good luck that has kept us going so far.

Just enjoying the place where we live, and the opportunities to go out and have low-cost fun.
