Aibu to ask which is nicer? Seychelles or Dominican Republic?

We are planning a holiday for next winter. My husband is all for the Dominican Republic (cap cana) whereas I would prefer the Seychelles

Those who have been to either - or both!) which would you choose?

I loved the Seychelles but did it on a budget several years ago. Small b&b, walked/bus to glorious empty beach, perfect. Havent been to DR but looks way too developed for my liking. Friends went and loved it though but they were AI and mainly stayed at hotel the entire time.

I know two people who were robbed (mugged and hotel safe broken into and emptied) in the dominican republic

Seychelles by a country mile. You can’t compare them. Dom Rep will be cheaper.

Never been to the Seychelles and it looks stunning but boring - typical honeymoon type place where I'd feel out of place as a solo traveller......

Been to DR 3x and it's a great place, very lively. Typically Latino culture, people are really friendly and helpful and great music. Merengue, Bachata...
My adult son went there and ended up staying 2 months.

Just not comparable locations at all!

Tbh, I'd be planning to do both. However, I'd look up what you want to do, some things will be similarly available, others won't. Then compare the hotels.

Never been to Dominican Republic to compare but I can say the Seychelles is absolutely stunning.
We went to a different beach or island every day and drove around the island. I don't think you would be able to do that in Dominican.

Not DR. Punta Cana is very beautiful but did not enjoy the holiday.

They are poles apart.. DR is very resort based. An extremely poor island and didnt feel particularly safe to be out wandering around outside the resort. Sure, there are your touristy boat rides, visits to plantations but not much else. However a very economical island - money goes a long way.

Seychelles is stunning and naturally beautiful. However it will cost a lot more. I also found it less friendly and far more stuffy than DR. It's expensive when you are there and though beautiful, the beaches can be riddled with sea urchins so walking barefoot on the beach is not advised in many places. If your after a beach island I'd look at Maldives or Antigua?

Seychelles. Hands down.

DR has beautiful areas. It's also one of the cheapest places to go in the Caribbean area, and the holiday experience is reflective of this. There are some more exclusive hotels, but it's more set up for the affordable Caribbean style experience, not the nicest.

I'm part Bajan. Spent time in most of the Caribbean. Also been to a lot of the Indian Ocean. Very different places. Caribbean is more lively, Indian Ocean is very very laid back and you definitely feel more isolated, which some will love, others will not.

If you like more of a party style, holiday resort feel, and you get bored easily, DR will have more to offer at a fraction of the price. Seychelles is more for relaxing and leisure. I go deep sea fishing a lot on holiday. The same boat excursion in the Seychelles will be 3-4 times more expensive than DR.

Its like choosing apples or bananas though. They aren't even similar resorts other than there will be sunshine if you choose the right time of year.

Personally if I was going to the Caribbean I wouldn't be choosing DR anyway. There are far nicer places within the Caribbean if that's the vibe you are after. I would choose Cuba or Antigua.
