I was Shamima Begum one yesterday but it got full too quickly.

OP posts:

Trouble is, long threads generally have wandered off onto a side-topic or two, or someone who can't be bothered to read 999 responses, responds to op on page 1, 27, etc, then gets flamed for not reading the whole bloody thing.
So, no 1000 is more than enough!

AndNobbyDancing · 24/02/2024 23:00

No, threads evolve, long running threads can have funny new titles, can be started by a different poster, add info to the second thread.

It isn't difficult to start a part 2.

DojaPhat · 24/02/2024 23:01

Then start a 2nd thread. Posters sometimes don't read much first the past page or two, even the first post or two. Imagine reading all 2000 posts just to mention the same thing some did 1463 posts ago. If it's that deep start another thread. Imagine reactivating zombie threads with 3000+ posts before anyone notices its from 2012. No thanks.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/02/2024 23:02

YABU, if a discussion is still ongoing then you can make a continuation thread.
It might be helpful if a 1001st post with a link to that could be added on request but MNHQ as people sometimes don't think to do that before the thread is full.

SecondUsername4me · 24/02/2024 23:02

Nope. I'd say they should be capped lower tbh. Those that want to continue the conversation can start and link a thread2 close to the cap.

DistingusedSocialCommentator · 24/02/2024 23:04

Threads with more than a dozen or so comments often end up OT

The thread you refer to never saw it but you are always welcome to start another and title it accordingly

Kalevala · 24/02/2024 23:05

I think it should be lowered to 500 and second threads linked.

SecondUsername4me · 24/02/2024 23:07

I'd like the opportunity for "fork" threads (no idea of this is an actual thing), so, take The Traitors.

A thread is started in TV board "Traitors Series 2" and stays on page 1 of TV board for the duration of the show being on telly.

The only posts on that thread are the direct links for each episode. So if you are watching along, you can tap on the Parent Thread, see only the list of links to each episode, and selec the episode you yourself are up to.

As it currently stands, you tap on "The Traitors" and whilst it's not a spoiler thread, if you are behind, you have no way of knowing how far into the chat you can navigate without being at risk of seeing a spoiler.

IVFlife · 24/02/2024 23:19

Historically it was also about the threads not loading if more than 1000.

LittleGreenDragons · 24/02/2024 23:19

I think it makes the thread unstable if it's more than a thousand posts so the admins cap it. I would rather read two threads than have one constantly crashing and unreadable.

Ask the OP to start a second thread (or make your own).
