They really are AWFUL. Yes, the insulation in the flat is very poor, but I just don't think it's considerate to blast jazz music each and every night, where the bass shakes the floor. Occasionally, this goes on past 11pm. Our bedroom is above their lounge where the damn speakers are. Our baby sleeps above all this noise. And they know we have a baby.
I know life doesn't and shouldn't stop for others if someone else has a baby, but is it unreasonable for me to think they could have the music a little quieter?

Have you asked them to turn it down?

Versailles2025 · 24/02/2024 20:41

Jazz is painful to listen to. I feel sorry for you.

IncognitoUsername · 24/02/2024 20:50

Do they know how loud it is for you?

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 24/02/2024 22:57

They are idiots.

I would speak to them. They might not know how loud it is for you. I once had an upstairs neighbour who complained about the music I listened to every evening. After several shitty letters from the landlord and me being completely confused because my music really wasn't on loud I invited them in and they agreed that the music didn't seem loud in my flat. It was just traveling though the floor pretty badly because of where the speakers were.

Is this revenge for stomping?

ThurstonArmbrister · 25/02/2024 01:52

Do you know where the main electrical breaker is to their flat? I had this issue once and hatched a plan that if it happened again I'd sneak down and shut off their power, then disappear for a half-hour walk so I wasn't in the building when it happened.

Thankfully they behaved themselves after being asked to and it never actually came to that, but I was 100% prepared to do it.

LynetteScavo · 25/02/2024 07:50

How have you approached them to ask them to turn it down so far?

And what else do they do to make them AWFUL?

cliffdiver · 25/02/2024 07:55

Have you checked the terms of the lease? Noise is usually restricted after a certain time.

Keep a log and approach the block management company.

Do they own or rent? If renting, do you know who their managing agent is? If not, the block manager should be aware.

Does your baby cry and wind them up? Maybe speaking to them face to face is the best thing.
