To not be able to work out how big this sofa is from the measurements given (picture provided)

I’m looking at buying a sofa from Marketplace. Asked for the measurements and been sent the attached picture. He can’t measure it again because it’s now in his garage stacked up in modular form.

is it just me or does this make zero sense or can any wise MNers tell me how big this thing is? I’m baffled

How can the footstool thing be 40 by 40 and the corner piece be 40 by 40?? They look totally different sizes!

Exactly! Also the footstool looks like a rectangle…not a square

That could be perspective. Thing closer look bigger. I am more confused by the 37.5. That cushion looks a lot bigger than the 40 next to it.

No sadly but that’s a good idea to ask him! I’ll message him. I really want it but if it’s nine and half feet long or something it’s not going to fit

The corner bits are smaller than the middle bits so how can the corner bits be 40 inches and the longer bits be 37.5. I’m glad I’m not going mad..

It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for and a bargain but now I can’t work out if it will fit. Who measures like that?

Taking those at face value, it's going to be something like 140 inches long along the long seat ( 3x 40inch cushions plus a bit for either end) and 85 (40+40 plus a bit) for the other seated bit, and 40 in plus a bit for the short end. But it's a very odd way to do it.

Yes the footstool will be 50x40 it's just the angle. What isn't clear is the arms at the side - I assume the 40in is the cushion/section but what about the arms?
It's a crap photo and inaccurate measuring. You need to know TOTAL length, not the size of each section.
But as @PatriciaHolm Says take it as 40 plus 40 plus 37.( plus at least another 20 for arms - that's a bloody big sofa! Afraid that is well over 9ft!

I’ve worked it out because I shared it on face boom and some had the exact same one. It’s well over 9ft long as a PP has said. It won’t fit 😞. The search continues! Thank you all

The perspective is off. I think that the footstool is actually square, judging by the rows of buttons being 3 by 3.
