Is it 10p a month?

SingaporeSlinky · 22/02/2024 18:38

I didn’t know it went up. Why does it need to go up at 80?

Eeepsh · 22/02/2024 18:39

It was put up in recognition of “the special claims of very elderly people who on the whole need help rather more than others" from Government website. To be fair, this was done in 1971 so the amount would have been worth more then.

It's something like 25p a week. It's a throwback to years ago when it went up by five shillings a week (a not inconsiderable sum back then) and it's never been changed.

Neriah · 22/02/2024 18:43

Ah... like the Christmas bonus? Almost enough to buy a bar of chocolate.

B1anche · 22/02/2024 18:44

It always used to be 25p.

Leopardmatches · 22/02/2024 18:45

Ah, I know my mum said it was enough to buy some sweets once a month. I thought she had cheaper tastes than she obviously does.

Eeepsh · 22/02/2024 18:46

It is 25p a week.

25pin 1971 worth about £3.25 - I hope such riches doesn't change my neighbour too much! 😂

The way things are going, I probably won't see my pension till I'm 90 anyway!

SpinyNorma · 22/02/2024 19:19

I am not entirely convinced there will even be such a thing as a state pension if I make it to 80.

Babyroobs · 22/02/2024 19:41

A recently turned 80 year old was telling me the other day it is 25p.

Sorry just seen you've already answered.

I think pensioners get a Christmas present of £10 every December.

Topofthemountain · 22/02/2024 20:37

My Mum's going to be rolling in it come September.

Not enough for a Freddo, but she should get a Dairy Milk Little Bar.

Party down her's.

Futb0l · 22/02/2024 20:48

I honestly asssume that because I've been a higher earner, they'll means test away state pension by the time i get there.
:(

Ah, that'll be why DM has been splashing out!
