To want to hear your IUI success stories

TTC #2 for 10mo. No success so far and it's really affecting me mentally so we're going for private IUI next month. Managed to conceive #1 in our first month of trying, just celebrated second birthday. I'm late 20s, partner mid 30s. Everything I read online says IUI has low success rate. Has it been effective for any of you?

Posting here for traffic because I really want to know if I'm wasting my time with IUI and should jump straight to IVF.

It wasn’t affective for me , sorry to say ( and I had 6 attempts ). But then I was a lot older than you which makes an huge difference and my first round of IVF wasn’t successful either- I had my miracle from my second IVF.

I would say that from my understanding, IUI statistics show it isn’t that much more successful than trying naturally each month, so it often only tends to be the first option for people who can’t try naturally like me. Where as IVF has a greater chance of showing you why you might not be conceiving as it’s a much more thorough/complicated process.

However your fertility doctors must have suggested IUI to you for a reason, so hopefully you’ll be one of the lucky ones 🤞

Can I ask how old you were if that's okay?

I have a friend who conceived all three times she attempted IUI (although she lost two pregnancies very early.) However, they (she and her OH) were aware that the infertility was down to him, she had conceived very easily several times with a previous partner and investigations came back showing his sperm motility was very poor.

I presume you’ve had fertility investigations which indicate your husband has very low sperm count / motility? IUI is likely to be unsuccessful if there are also issues your side.

Iui worked first time for me after several attempts at IVF, and I had twins

I was 37 when I started. I’m a single mother (used donor sperm). IUI is often the first call for SMBC (and lesbian couples) since we often have no idea if we could conceive “naturally” or not. But my age was obviously against me, so it took 3 years of trying. You are young and have managed to get pregnant before which stands you in good stead. If your DH has already had tests to check his sperm, I’d probably ask for tests to check your tubes are clear and scans to check your womb/lining next just in case there’s a problem there but they can’t really tell things like egg quality unless you have IVF. Good luck.

I would just remember that an IUI is like one month of 'perfect' trying (ie mobile sperm is there when egg is released). It then matters about the egg quality and sperm quality and all the other stars that have to align. All the best of luck to you OP Xxx

@abouttotryiui just stumbled across this. I had a successful pregnancy last year with IUI. I'd say it's definitely worth a shout as it's much less invasive but the chances are quite low. Feel free to ask if you have any questions! 😀
