Debating with a friend who swears anecdotally, good and bad, that things happen in 3s.

Is it what you’ve noticed?

Bad things come in threes, so the saying goes.

Bad things come in threes, so the saying goes.

Surely it’s just superstition though

Of course it's nonsense.

I think it's true that one thing can build on the foundations of another. So a good thing brightens your outlook and increases your confidence, so you're more able to take advantage of the next good thing. Conversely, a bad thing can make you vulnerable and less resilient, making you more likely to succumb to another bad thing, or not handle it well

I have noticed that famous people tend to die in threes, although that may just be a personal unconscious bias I've cobbled together.

It's kind of true. But only if we choose to count it that way.

A bad thing happens. Number 1.
Another two bad things happen, yup things happen in threes and we stop counting.

Till the next bad thing happens...

...and we start counting at 1.
