Why hasn't the dad also been punished (tw child abuse)

I was reading this

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-68353302

YouTube influencer sentenced for child abuse. Dad called for the maximum sentence but if the article is correct he was still around whilst some of this was going on, so why isn't he in trouble too?

I thought exactly the same!

Thelnebriati · 20/02/2024 23:13

It appears he doesn't have custody either, maybe he was charged separately?

JMSA · 20/02/2024 23:17

I know! Where was that useless bastard exactly?

HelloMiss · 20/02/2024 23:18

So both women were charged?

Vile

It says in the article that the parents separated in 2022, and the abuse started after that. So sounds like he was not on the scene. Obviously we don’t know why, but given her other comments about distrusting schools, hospitals, and “fathers who don’t protect their families”, it sounds likely she was preventing him from seeing them.

MixedCouple · 20/02/2024 23:25

The abuse predates the CEO Jodi but got worse after. So dear papa was present at home would have been aware. So he should be investigated fully..

HelloMiss · 20/02/2024 23:26

It's all been investigated fully

MixedCouple · 20/02/2024 23:27

The awful thing is that the older children raised concerns to CPS many many times in the past and not inveatigation happened. Where is the justice for the system letting these kids down.

negomi90 · 20/02/2024 23:47

When they were together, abuse was investigated but CPS didn't pursue. They were both clearly awful and abusive (as per her youtube videos) but didn't meet Utah threshold for intervention.
They split.
She had custody, (definitely of the 2 youngest, possibly some of the older ones as well). Got with the other woman. Abuse became torture and ramped up into different levels.
He is a scum bag, but not nearly on her level and according to Utah CPS (social services) didn't meet thresholds for intervention let alone criminal prosecution. She also didn't at that point. The divorce escalated her.
It still raises the question of why he wasn't seeing the younger kids or why if he were seeing them he didn't intervene. But he's a git, he didn't torture the kids.

The article said suspicions were raised in 2020, 2 years before they separated.

Sounds like that was still within the realms of “harsh but legal” parenting at that point - cancelling Christmas and threatening stuffed toys is not exactly stellar parenting, but wouldn’t necessarily meet the threshold for police/social services. It also sounds like it was more sporadic.

The stuff after 2022 (beating, tying up, withholding food) sounds like it is in a different league to what was happening when the parents were together. So I would assume that is why she was charged and he wasn’t.

Delphiniumandlupins · 21/02/2024 01:10

Perhaps he supplied evidence in return for not being charged and that was more important. Perhaps he has already been dealt with on a lesser charge. Perhaps he was also being abused.
