Please someone IT literate. DH looked at my essay and added some comments, I now can’t get rid of the review pane. I’ve tried accepting the comments, clicking show mark up, no mark up, original etc. every Time the review pane goes, I save it but when I upload to Turnitin the pane on the right where comments go is there.

It’s due at 4, I’ve tried for hours to get rid of it every way and with Google. I’m in tears- please how do I permanently get rid of the comment pane? Have copied and pasted into another document and it’s still there when I save.

In the review section, either turn off "track changes", or turn off "comments". Either that or delete each comment in turn.

There might be a comma or format change that you haven't been able to accept. In the review pane in word click "accept all changes and stop tracking" and see if that sorts it

AlleeBee · 19/02/2024 14:44

Sounds like Track Changes is still on. Go to Review, click on the arrow under the Accept button and select 'Accept All Changes and Stop Tracking'. (I would do this on a back up copy, just in case!)

Jinx to @whatahat 😉

Failing that, copy the whole text. In a new word doc right click and select the past option that has a letter A (when you over it, it should say keep text only). Whatever comments or whatever are copying over should not transfer when pasting that way

If what the others have said doesn't work, in the Review tab, select Show Comments and pick in a Contextual List. Then if there are unaddressed comments they'll show there. Deal with those and then click the X on the Comments tab to close it. Save, exit document and reopen to see if it's worked.

Even if it hasn't, you can still submit the essay. Your teacher will probably think it's their fault they can't get rid of the Review pane 😉

The answer to “stop all tracking”
has been posted but just wanted to share your absolute frustration. Best of luck to with the assignment.

I hate this section of word! I’ve had similar experiences. So glad you are sorted!

AlleeBee · 19/02/2024 15:44

Years ago I knew someone who had somehow managed to hide the track changes on the screen, but they were still showing when they printed the document out!! By the time I got there to help them they were ready to throw the whole computer out the window!!
