Ok so I know I AM being unreasonable but it's really getting my goat! I'm waiting for my son to finish his club this morning, it takes place somewhere that there is a massive seating area and cafe/bar. There are lots of seats, tables, sofas etc so people absolutely do not need to sit next to each other.
This morning, I sat on one of the sofas to enjoy a bit of peaceful mumsnet reading, within 10 minutes some guy came and sat right next to me and started watching reels on his phone on the loudest setting possible!
I wasn't rude but I gathered my things and left to sit somewhere else to get the peace I'm craving. It's been a long week and this is the only hour I have where I can do absolutely nothing all by myself!
Within minutes a group of people came to sit at the table next to me and are practically shouting to each other and cackling!!
I'm move AGAIN, hoping third times a charm.
NOPE!! Now someone's come to chomp their crisps as loudly as humanly possible on the table across from me!!
I know I'm being unreasonable to expect to sit somewhere public in relative quiet, but why do people gravitate to me when the place is huge and practically empty?!
So come on, tell me what would you all do because I'm thinking of packing up to go wait the last half hr in the car!!

Really?

Picklestop · 18/02/2024 11:53

Where is this empty cafe / bar on a Sunday morning? I have never been able to find one!

I'm afraid I can't tell you or it won't stay (relatively) quiet and empty 😂

Really?

Yes really!! You must be one of the lucky ones who has lots of peace and quiet to not understand this post!

I was with you until you found offence in someone eating crisps. How loud can that really be?!

Alwaystired2023 · 18/02/2024 12:14

Just currently hiding upstairs sat on the bedroom floor and it is so peaceful after non stop since 6am I hear you OP

I’ve plotted people’s murder in my head for loud eating! Gives me the rage!

OP can you sit in the car? That’s what I do!!

Honestly I think I was just really ratty by then thanks to previous offenders, but they were really loud crisp munchers!!

Silicone earplugs are your friend. Cheap as chips, I wouldn't be without them.
HTH.

Funnily enough we have lots of them all over the house as our other son is autistic and uses them all the time. I'll have to pinch a pair for my handbag!

I wouldn't do anything except roll my eyes, because as you said, you're being unreasonable.

😂 Well done for owning your rattiness! Let it out!

This is what noise cancelling headphones were invented for.

Or libraries. Go park up in a library for an hour instead!

ZebraPensAreLife · 18/02/2024 12:22

The person watching reels on his phone was completely unreasonable - the rest is what noise-cancelling earphones were invented for!

Thisisnotarehearsal · 18/02/2024 13:15

People have zero idea how to comport themselves in public anymore OP. We've moved to American individualism and most people don't care about others in society. Look at the horror who posted a picture of a Gucci handbag on here this week next to champagne and oysters whilst having a good old, look at me gloat. There are so many women posting on here about how they are struggling with the COL crisis, but nope she didn't think about the impact of her post on others as long as she got attention

No one should be listening to their phone without headphones, it's horrid, selfish behaviour.

Apparently these days you shouldn't be out in public unless you are willing to be exposed to a feral lack of manners.

Cherrysoup · 18/02/2024 13:45

Think I’d have retreated to the car with a coffee. People watching reels/playing music without headphones should be smacked around the head.

Sennelier1 · 19/02/2024 18:30

I always have headphone and music on my phone, and yes sometimes I need them to escape from people who think they're talking to someone in Zimbabwe 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

MotherOfOlafs · 19/02/2024 18:32

I feel your pain! Me and DH stayed for one night at a country hotel on Saturday night, was lovely and peaceful until the room next door started playing music loud enough that it could’ve only been through a speaker they’d brought with them. Waited til 11pm and rang reception to get someone to have a word!!
