To ask how to manage a missing dental crown?

Really stupidly forgot about my temporary crown and managed to pull it out with a toffee. I KNOW. I probably won't be able to see anyone before Monday.

Any idea what I can do? Buy a repair kit? The crown is broken so can't be put back. Can I brush it? It doesn't hurt at the moment (save for a bit of sensitivity to cold).

Wait until Monday and see a dentist

My dentist didn’t even bother with a temporary crown whilst the permanent one was being made, is it a cosmetic issue? I’d just leave it and chew on the other side until Monday. Be careful as the remaining tooth might be fragile

Oh, you incels with your willy fixations

Right at the back so not cosmetic. Maybe best left until Monday!

@CarterBeatsTheDevil I think my temp crown has come out at least three times! It's been up to two weeks until I could get seen again (and that's with a private dentist!) Advice was keep tooth clean and all will be fine.

Thank you! This is all very reassuring

How far away is it from getting your new permanent crown? I had to get a crown recently and it was going to take 2 weeks for the lab to make the permanent crown. The practice told me that if the temporary crown fell out during the first week, come back for it to be replaced. If it fell out during the second week, I could try to live with it for a few days unless it was causing too much sensitivity.

Personally I'd fill it with something, some dental temporary filler. When is the finished crown due to be fitted? My swanky American dentist likes to have the crown on within 36 hours of root canal treatment. Could you temp fill it and wait to the crown fitting if it's only a couple more days away?

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 18/02/2024 01:03

So it hasn't had a root canal. It's been thoroughly cleaned out, temporarily crowned and then left to see if it stays settled. Which it did until I was a moron.

I think I will call on Monday and see what they say if it has stayed manageable.

I had this before and couldn't see a dentist for a week or so as was travelling. It was fine. Obviously don't chew anything too taxing on that tooth until it's fixed!

Update: tooth is fine. Thanks all for the reassurance! Making an appointment this week (hopefully).
