Is it possible. I'm
Generally puffy anyway. Alcohol makes me look like the character in white orchid ...

Not if you’re a regular drinker ime.
It will look better in two weeks, but the less grey, less bloated looking face takes a few weeks.

independentthinking · 14/02/2024 18:49

If you stop completely and hydrate properly ?

I think you will start to notice an improvement. I’d look to hydrate properly and really concentrate on diet as well just to give you body the best chance

Wilkolampshade · 14/02/2024 19:25

The bloating will go in that time, just, I think. But not any red veins etc.
(Pours a large scotch).

I didn't know this was a thing

DontForgetWhereYouCameFrom · 14/02/2024 19:30

Is this all alcohol or just wine?

I have a small drink (not wine) most nights, but the other morning I looked really puffy and just awful. I thought I'd just had a bad night's sleep or something.

mjf981 · 14/02/2024 19:31

I’ve never even heard of this 😳

Icantsleepagain · 14/02/2024 19:33

I've never heard of wine face. I've heard of drinker's nose.
I gave up alcohol about six months ago and I still look fucked. However this is likely to be due to my wine substitutions such as coffee, sugar and chicken nuggets. So I'm not deserving of a flawless complexion. Goes back to eating alpha bites.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 14/02/2024 19:33

I think you'd notice a difference, but it wouldn't go completely.

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/02/2024 19:34

Probably not. Stopped drinking 5 weeks ago. Only just noticed that I’m beginning to look fresher.

laclochette · 14/02/2024 19:35

It'll definitely improve!
Get a lymphatic facial massage if you can and a good facial in general to speed things along.

independentthinking · 14/02/2024 19:44

Hard to believe that it is taking so long for many of you! I thought that our bodies were more efficient but am glad to have a timeline at least!!
I will increase my water and perhaps start facial massage. Does that work?

The liver is incredibly efficient but if you’ve been drinking for a long time it can take months.

HuntingoftheSnark · 14/02/2024 19:59

Absolutely, you can make a really noticeable difference in two weeks! I speak from many years of experience of seeing newcomers in AA.

independentthinking · 14/02/2024 20:04

I had been drinking two bottles per week , sometimes three on a bank holiday weekend.

Nor me!

Skin renewal depends on your age - teen skin turns over in about 28 days, middle age you're looking at nearer four weeks, over 50s like me have to give it 2 - 3 months... 😆

But there's general health to consider too. Your innards and brain will also be working hard to recover, so your body's using a lot of resources! That's why we get so knackered in early sobriety...

But honestly, hang on in there - there's a glow waiting just under the surface - and you are doing such a lovely, self-caring and self-respecting thing for yourself!

😄

This will help.

Sorry, I meant 'middle-aged skin is 4 - 6 weeks'...

I always healed well, but noticed with age that cuts and bruises take longer to get better... 🤕
