To not want herbs and spices in my microwave curry rice?

I don't want a whole clove or a bay leaf or a cardamon pod. Can't they do without them? I just tip the curry over the rice so it's pointless trying to fancy it up.

I don't really get the problem. It's not 'fancying it up', it's for flavour. I put bay leaves, whole sprigs of rosemary etc in things I make at home. It's not to make it look nice. I just remove it before serving.

I think they just throw one in each packet to look nice

I'm surprised no-one's broken a tooth on them.

Chocladore · 14/02/2024 18:01

I’m with you OP.

Chocladore · 14/02/2024 18:02

If you accidentally leave one in and chow down on a cardamom pod, yuck!

OiGetOff · 14/02/2024 18:04

I wholeheartedly agree op. PITA to remove when you’re just after a quick meal.

Imnotarestaurant · 14/02/2024 18:06

Either cook your own rice or buy plain microwave rice 🤷‍♀️

But the normal way to use bay leaves in cooking is whole, and it will add flavour!

Second this! The things people moan about.

Zanatdy · 14/02/2024 18:16

Many authentic Indian dishes have whole spices in. I use them when making Biryani and a fish curry dish. But yeah it can be annoying if you bite into one. But they do enhance the flavour

Third.

Could have bought long grain, basmati, jasmine, etc, instead.

Does it though. That's my point. Is it just to make customers think they are getting value for money or does it do anything.

Do they in these microwave ready meals though? They are sort of steamed for 5 mins in the microwave. Is that enough to flavour anything?

Ah. What does the labelling say?

I would expect it to be seasoned since it is a curry rice.

OhmygodDont · 14/02/2024 18:43

Maybe just buy a. Jar of sauce and a packet of micro rice and micro the pair together if you don’t like the enhancement.

I add bay leaf in curries and had a jar of cardamon pods for something I cooked.

I've clearly had very unfancy microwave curries, never come across this! Where are you buying them from? Confused

It sounds quite nice though so maybe I am not your target audience Grin

SheepAndSword · 14/02/2024 18:55

I want an Indian now as well. I was going to cook Chinese.

SteamingTangerine · 14/02/2024 19:02

Aldi microwave curries are delicious but they contain whole cardamom pods that can give a nasty surprise Envy

Hashtagihearya · 14/02/2024 19:05

Why are you not buying just plain rice then????

if you are going to stay with ready meals I expect there are brands with plain rice and I know there meals with no rice.

Unless plain boiled, whole spices are authentic to flavour rice. A lot easier to avoid if you are eating with your hands as a lot of people in India do. ( I don’t so am just very careful.)
