I'd love some ideas . I've lost a decent amount of weight but love my weekend food .
Any ideas or are they all just nasty substitutes for the real deal ?

The pinch of nom Sausage and Egg McMuffins are brilliant but not sure if that counts. Otherwise I agree.
Sometimes the diet books have "pizza topped chips" which are like the slimming world chips covered in limited cheese but more other toppings, which are pretty nice.. Pinch of Nom have these too.

following to see if anyone else has any good ones!

Kenny McGovern The Takeaway secret. There's about 6 books now.

DS's loved the fake Maccies breakfast

Just try to remember that the reason the real thing tastes better is because they’re packed with more fat and salt than you’d ever cook with at home. A fakeaway might not give you the same dopamine hit but it’s better for you in the long run and means you aren’t spending however much money on a single meal.

any of these? @26071aaa

I cook curries at home and they don't come anywhere near the calories of a typical take away. We happily eat them 5 times a week while on a diet.
I use chicken breast, loads of spices, minimal oil and a ton of veggies.
We also cook Thai with reduced fat coconut milk.

I was about to say this, his books are amazing and the food tastes exactly like the real deal

Try the book - Ziangs Food Work Shop - Chin and Choo's Chinese Takeaway Cooking Bible: Cook how the Chinese Takeaways actually cook

Ebananascroogey · 14/02/2024 13:56

Misty Ricardo's curry books are very very close to an Indian takeaway

OnTheBanks · 14/02/2024 13:58

For me, takeaways are easy but never taste as good as home cooked food

Saymyname28 · 14/02/2024 13:59

What's your go to takeaway meals and people might have recipes for those?

I make a banging chippy tea but I highly doubt its any healthier than an actual chippy.

chiwwy · 14/02/2024 14:02

I agree, I’ve tried making Nando’s at home but it wasn’t as nice, think you need the flame grill.

I like making egg muffins at home and they’re very nice but they’re not the same as McDs.

mrsm43s · 14/02/2024 15:48

I agree, no fakeaways taste the same as takeaways.

That said, the fakeaways can taste perfectly nice in their own right, and are likely healthier and certainly cheaper. Just try not to compare, and think of it as a different, but still nice, dinner

My local does an amazing honey sesame chicken... I am obsessed with it. But I can't eat it all the time so I've got a at-home recipe which does taste almost... just as good.

  • Cut up chicken breast or thighs into strips.
  • Coat in cornflour and chinese 5 spice mixed together
  • Bake/Fry/Airfry until crispy
  • Mix honey, sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar and garlic on a hob.
  • Add chicken to sauce once it's cooked
  • Serve with rice.

You could do the same with beef or pork, and your favourite sauces e.g. sweet chilli or sweet n sour :)

FurryPawsSnaggleTooth · 14/02/2024 15:57

My take aways are wagamama which I found easy to replicate in fact even better at home.
I like fillet o fish and that too can be replicated however when i did WW, pinch of nom and slimming world none came close to real junk or restaurant food because they were constricted by fat and sugar amounts.

Amba1998 · 14/02/2024 15:59

Air fryer five guys

air fryer crispy chilli beef

better than the OG anyday

FurryPawsSnaggleTooth · 14/02/2024 15:59

Nandos is also easy enough to replicate thanks to their sauces but it is best when you can barbeque

afaloren · 14/02/2024 16:00

Joshua Weissman’s at-home KFC is delicious but I’m not sure how healthy it is!

AnotherVice · 14/02/2024 16:01

The M&S Thai takeaway is amazing! Probably not especially healthy but much cheaper than a takeaway and is absolutely delicious.

Sanch1 · 14/02/2024 16:03

Gousto chicken katsu curry is amazing!

BroughttoyoubyBerocca · 14/02/2024 16:04

Other than homemade chips using frylite all the takeaway stuff is shite. Would always rather use syns/points on other stuff

User19798 · 14/02/2024 16:04

We do homemade fried chicken, Peri Peri chicken and burgers and they are much much better than the fast food version but they are different.

We enjoy this one as a Chinese substitute!

RedPony1 · 14/02/2024 16:11

The entire point of a takeaway for me, is that i dont have to enter the kitchen, so a fakeaway will never cut it!

RobertaFirmino · 14/02/2024 16:16

The Spice Tailor Fiery Goan kit is a great alternative to vindaloo. Just add a bit more chilli if you like, chicken and some potato if you can be arsed. You do get these little
pools of oil forming and you can skim these off if you want.

TheBirdintheCave · 14/02/2024 16:20

I perfected fried rice and Chinese curry (takeaway style) at the weekend. Mine tastes exactly the same as if I ordered it from the chip shop now.
