My mum is addicted to Tipping Point. I found some old shows to put on the tv for her, and the question came up "What is the most Northerly county in England". The answers the contestants gave were 'Birmingham' and something like 'Hampshire'.
AIBU that this is awful?

You're being unreasonable to be surprised that the type of people who go on that type of show are largely devoid of general knowledge!

Sounds about the correct standard for ITV viewers/participants.

My mum seems to like watching it so she can complain about the 'youth' not knowing basic general knowledge!
She is 85 and enjoys complaining.

Private Eye magazine has a regular feature called "Dumb Britain", where readers can send in examples of ridiculous and ignorant TV quiz show answers they've spotted. Tipping Point is in almost every edition. Celebrity Mastermind is usually not far behind.

Agreed TP isn’t exactly Only Connect, but in fairness to the contestants I think sometimes the anxiety of being on TV/answering questions under bright lights etc means they panic a little and their mouth and brain don’t connect!

wishiwasinbarbados · 14/02/2024 13:47

Only Connect is bloody hard!

There was absolute belter on tipping point. The question was, "In his epic poems, Homer often refers to nectar as the drink of the gods and which other substance as their food?” the guy said doughnuts 🤣😂🤣😂
