Dutch Hema is trending on X because some advertising caused an uproar and they have apologised, sort of.
I feel like the advertising was just gross and problematic in terms of safe-guarding.
The Hema store basically sells a lot of household items, pyjamas for adults and kids, all sorts of decorations, toys, candy and stuff like decorated pens and notebooks and stickers.
They occasionally make a "magazine" they mail to costumers with all the new stuff. Often with a toy section so kids browse it to. This time is was a baby magazine "everything for you and your baby" and underneath the large font "baby" it says "from pacifier to sex toy"
It featured lots of baby stuff like toys and clothes and stuff for the mothers.
On this page you can see baby stuff and on the bottom a vibrator. The text says: "Don't look any further for an original present for baby or mother. Let yourself be inspired here from plushies to sex toys, from teething ring to champagne"
I feel very uncomfortable with this mixing sex toys and alcohol with baby stuff. It is obviously not a mistake because of the text in multiple places. I'm not going to shop at Hema again.
Someone I know thinks it's no big deal at all and thinks everyone who complained is a "prude". I lost some respect for that person because of this but seeing how a lot of people are saying it's no big deal I am starting to doubt myself.
What do you think? Am I being unreasonable in thinking this advertising is problematic?
