To ask if anyone has found a breast lump like this and it’s turned out to be okay?

I have a glandular area on one of my breasts. It was checked at the breast clinic about 7 years ago and all was fine. I have actually been a bit hesitant to check that area because it is so lumpy that every time I check, I panic. Also, lumps seem to come and go there but they are always small, smooth and movable.

I have had some pain in the area so did a thorough check and there is a lump that is not movable and just feels a little different. It is equally small but seems to be causing associated pain in the area. I have also had some pain at my nipple area.

Im on my period so I'm waiting for that to go to check again and will then see my GP. Im just scared and fearing the worst and have no one to talk to about it.

Yes. Mine turned out to be an abscess. It was treated with drainage and antibiotics.

Whatever it is, you'll be in a better position getting medical advice sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed it's something simple, but if not, at least you can get it dealt with as quickly and effectively as possible.

I have had similar and was checked at the hospital too as I’m high risk. Luckily all was ok and it was a gland. Please go and get checked.
I said I felt silly when talking to the consultant when it was nothing. She said it is never silly. Have any worries checked and we’ll tell you in good time if it’s anything to worry about. Do not wait x

notknowledgeable · 12/02/2024 19:53

why are you waiting to see your GP? Go as soon as you can.

twistersisters · 12/02/2024 19:55

Thank you.

Is it worth seeing the GP whilst I’m still on my period? Or is waiting for that to pass a better idea? My boobs are swollen and tender right now generally so I thought maybe best to wait a week or so.

@notknowledgeable - when I went about the lumps 7 years ago, the doctor asked me to come back in a couple of weeks, to check them at a different time in my cycle. That’s why I’m unsure.

I had similar and it turned out to be cysts. It's best to get things checked though, my GP referred me to a breast clinic and I was seen within about 3 weeks and given scans and all clear on the day. Noone made me feel like I was wasting their time at all.

That is a load of nonsense, you need to get onto the two week pathway ASAP - because it is very slow going after that

Book your GP appointment.

I had a (Phyllodes) breast tumor - not malignant but would have eventually caused serious health problems if they hadn't removed it. Biopsy and surgery all straightforward. At exactly the same time as I was being checked out so was my aunt and hers turned out to be a cyst.

FabFebHalfTerm · 12/02/2024 20:01

@twistersisters

no medical background, so 💁🏻‍♀️. Personally I'd wait until my period was over & boobs had settled down.

id book the appointment now though.

best wishes.

I have just had this very same thing! I too have lumpy breasts generally and avoid checking for that reason! In my case the lump was normal breast tissue but my symptoms sound very similar to yours and i also had discomfort. Hope all goes okay for you, definitely get it checked out but am sure it will be fine xx

Wife2b · 12/02/2024 20:04

Yes, I was sent for an ultrasound which showed nothing. Consultant said the breasts change so much during the menstruation cycle that lumps can be found if they are checked at specific times of the cycle.

WeeOrcadian · 12/02/2024 20:14

I've been referred for lumps but was asked to come back after my next period

Scan done - fatty lumps

That isn't the same for everyone though

Go and get checked, there's zero harm

YeOldeTrout · 12/02/2024 20:31

Mystery painful lump that appeared out of nowhere & went away by itself. Consultant didn't know what it was, either.

JerkintheMerkin · 12/02/2024 20:49

Yes. It was grape sized and felt tender around my periods. Turned out to be a cyst which they drain every 5-7 years when it fills up again. Had a couple of fibroadenomas taken out as well. I check my breasts daily.

Didley · 12/02/2024 20:51

Get it checked out immediately

Didley · 12/02/2024 20:53

Insist you have a mammogram x
