Following on from the interior design hates, what would be the perfect mumsnet home?

AIBU to suspect it doesn’t actually exist?

It won't, as all the people on that thread will have different opinions/hates/loves.

IncompleteSenten · 12/02/2024 11:18

You're right, it doesn't.
I love my house but I think lots of mners would hate it. We're all different.

Teq · 12/02/2024 11:19

I have a perfect house because it’s mine and I love it and it’s filled with the people and pets I love.

I don’t care what anyone thinks of my decor or kitchen.

Nextbitoflife · 12/02/2024 11:20

The cottage in the holiday. Well that’s mine anyway!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 12/02/2024 11:22

Well, given that both the 'design loves' and 'design hates' threads have loads of posters with completely opposite views, YANBU at all to think that it doesn't exist!

1 without a loo brush in sight 😁
Therefore I fall at the first hurdle 😂

The MN perfect house has:

17 toilets, which you must clean every day or you are slovenly.

A bedroom for each child. Sharing a bedroom is UNFAIR and NEGLECTFUL, even if said bedroom is 20ft by 20ft.

A massive garden, NO astroturf, which must be pristine at all times. You'll be responsible for fences/boundaries on all sides, lest you upset the neighbours.

Detached in the arse-end of nowhere, but ideally with neighbours close by, in case of emergencies.

Naptrappedmummy · 12/02/2024 11:29

I’m imagining a kooky large Victorian terrace in a gentrified part of town, with ‘tasteful’ and bohemian items collected from their mind expanding travels, walls all painted a farrow and ball neutral, artful clutter, bookshelves full of little know books with one or two lying open in a (I suspect) staged way. A European style kitchen so a sink with some stand alone wooden countertops and a large metal range. A Welsh bedspread (BOUGHT in Wales obviously), and a little ramshackle garden full of mixed plants and honeysuckle, with one rickety wooden chair where the lady resident sits in a tasteful straw hat to read one of the aforementioned books as she glares at next door’s astroturf and decking.

Girlsjustwannahavefungi · 12/02/2024 11:51

On a recent kitchen thread there were several people who said that they had designed their kitchens specifically to accommodate roller skating (as if!)

Bluevelvetsofa · 12/02/2024 12:06

The perfect house is the one that you love. You love it because of a number of different things, some of which may be the decor and furnishings, but it’s much more to do with it being ‘home.’

That means different things to different people.

Roller-skating in the kitchen 😂

Maybeicanhelpyou · 12/02/2024 13:14

Mine!

Aquamarine1029 · 12/02/2024 13:14

One we don't have to clean.

Desecratedcoconut · 12/02/2024 13:17

No doors to knock on, you have to tunnel your way in from an undisclosed location.
