CF neighbour

So long term neighbour asked me if I would pop into hers today to feed her dog as she would be out overnight.
I said not a problem and she left me with a spare key.
Yesterday she sent me a message stating her event had got cancelled and she was staying home. I offered to drop the key back but she said to keep it in case of emergencies. Fair enough.
I've now got a text asking if I had popped in. I replied no, as I was under the impression she wasn't going and now I've had a very shirty reply.

So, what the hell was that all about.

Can’t respond unless know what the reply was?

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 11/02/2024 17:43

Fuck knows.

She actually said she was staying home, but still expected you to go in?!

She didn't say something like the theatre was cancelled, meaning she was still going away, just not the theatre (or whatever), right??

Is she home now or is dog still alone? If she is, I'd tell her you're posting her key through the letter box as you're not being part of whatever game she's trying to play.

Edited

Yes, agreed.

Dacadactyl · 11/02/2024 17:45

Need to know the reply.

Gazelda · 11/02/2024 17:46

Difficult to answer.

But I wonder whether she meant that the overnight element was cancelled, but she'd still be away from home today. But she should have been much clearer!

IncompleteSenten · 11/02/2024 17:46

Pop her key back through her door.

Veronicaisaflower · 11/02/2024 17:47

Maybe ... talk to her? Or not?

Itslegitimatesalvage · 11/02/2024 17:48

What was the reply? Angry that you hadn’t gone in? Or accusing you of going in and touching her stuff anyway?

Are you being accused of not feeding the dog, because you believed she would be home (coz that’s what she said)? Or are you being accused of entering her property without permission?

Fallenangelofthenorth · 11/02/2024 17:49

But did you feed the dog? Poor bugger must be desperate for the toilet.

Etincelle · 11/02/2024 17:52

Just reply. "You said you were staying home, so I wouldn't need to feed your dog"

latenightprep · 11/02/2024 19:34

I'd definitely give her the key back!

TeenLifeMum · 11/02/2024 19:35

Send her a screen shot of her message 🤷🏻‍♀️

PossumintheHouse · 11/02/2024 19:36

Claxon: what what the reply!!?

WeeOrcadian · 11/02/2024 19:36

Screen grab her message saying she wasn't going, and send it to her.

Vettrianofan · 11/02/2024 19:43

So what was the shirty reply?

Ktime · 11/02/2024 19:44

Give the key back asap or post the key back to her house.

Judd · 11/02/2024 19:46

She's been your neighbour for a long time and knows you well enough to ask you to do a favour.
I'd bob round and talk to her about it x

pictoosh · 11/02/2024 19:46

And the shirty reply was.....

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 11/02/2024 19:52

Sounds as if she was still going away even though the event was cancelled. She's worried about her dog. Why don't you go round and check it's OK?

Ridiculous24 · 11/02/2024 20:21

her event had got cancelled and she was staying home

CFs can ask favours of near strangers.

a222 · 11/02/2024 21:11

tell us what she said!!!

BumblePan · 11/02/2024 21:25

Regardless of the outcome in this situation, I would not hold onto the key. You could be opening up more drama in the future.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 11/02/2024 21:50

It was a text on the lines of
"I was relying on you, had I known I would never have given you the key"

I popped in after the text, fed the dog and waited for her to come. I explained I had no idea she was out and would never just randomly pop into someone's house.

I think she had a bit of a tough day, turns out it was family wake thing so I think I will let this one slide.

So she said she wasn't going to be out, but you were still expected to go in? Eh?
