I'm leaving my husband. Married for 4 years, together 15. Two DC. 1 and 11.

He owns the house, we each own a car, I own mine outright. Seperate savings. He earns 70k me 30k.

What do I need to consider/get in place before leaving?

Proper legal advice.

You need to see a solicitor, I'm sure you get your first hour for free (or you did when my parents divorced 12 years ago!) and they will tell you exactly what needs to happen.

Don’t think of the house as his.

Set your sights on getting at least half of everything.

I don’t think you have separate anything at this stage, unless there is already contracts in place. You need to see a solicitor.

Get copies of all financial stuff like bank accounts and shares and credit cards .. at least the banking details and odd pages showing balances. If possible get him to leave the property not you. You do own at least half of the joint pot including house.
Seek professional legal advice.
