Not to rebook?

Organised a deep clean of the house today with a local business. Originally expected 2-3 people to blitz the place.

Transpired one person coming, ok but a PITA as I'll have to be home all day for them so as to keep dog out the way.

This morning, message received from the business ten mins after due time that the cleaner's car won't start but she's trying to get it going. An hour later I ask if all is OK, apparently she's not managed to get it going and it's dead despite jump leads. It's not been below 8c here in over a week so it's not the cold that's done it.

Barely an apology, just saying they'll rebook.

I'm tempted to say we don't want to rebook as I spent two days decluttering and then an hour waiting for them today. I'm concerned about reliability tbh. And I suspect they forgot to book the cleaner in at all.

AIBU?

Nope
They don't value your time
Find someone else

PutMyFootIn · 11/02/2024 13:25

Don't use them again and give t hem a bad review.

I suspect the cleaner just woke up and decided they didn't want to work today rather than the company forgot to book someone in.

shoppingshamed · 11/02/2024 13:27

Of course you dont have to rebook, find someone more reliable

MixingPlaydough · 11/02/2024 13:30

Definitely wouldn't want them to rebook. You hired them to do a job and they clearly couldn't be arsed so why should they get another chance. If you'd cancelled on the morning of the clean I doubt very much they'd just let you rebook.

PutMyFootIn · 11/02/2024 13:32

Would it be really cuntish of me to suggest that you rebook and then cancel ten minutes before they are due to arrive? 😀

TwattingDog · 11/02/2024 14:13

Lots of evil people here. I like you.

Not going to rebook, but we have struggled to find someone anyway so it's a bit galling!

Small 3 bed house, only one room used as a bedroom, it just falls into the "want to pay someone, not do it myself" category at the moment!

The cold isn't the only reason cars don't start

I'd rebook and see if they turn up/what job they do first

TwattingDog · 11/02/2024 14:38

Agreed @ButWhatAboutTheBees , but it would at least be a reasonable explanation. I've had decades of unreliable crappy cars, but I've always managed to get them going unless the battery is buggered which is often temperature related.

I'm just not happy with the poor explanation and poor contact from them. I was to be paying £225 for this today, including the oven, so not as though it was a small amount of money for someone!

At £225 they could have got a cab (assuming you’re in a town)

SgtJuneAckland · 11/02/2024 14:42

My car wouldn't start a few weeks ago it was cold but not freezing, battery was knackered, wouldn't jump start, had to wait for the AA, they got it going with one of those quick charge things but said if I turned it off it wouldn't start again and I took it to Halfords for a new battery. I wouldn't leap to any other assumption. When have they offered to rebook for? If it was within a week or so I'd just accept that given you had trouble finding someone

TwattingDog · 11/02/2024 14:46

@Lurkingandlearning not sure where the cleaner lives, but the company is in my town. If you are mobile and able to walk at a fairly standard walking pace you can walk one side to the other in a max 45mins even with the (pig of a) hill in the middle. Lots of small rural villages and towns here though, so entirely possible they are too remote to hike it.

I had similar last year @SgtJuneAckland so I do get it but I still think I've been fobbed off.

Home all day to keep the dog out of the way? Paying £225 and struggled to find someone? I think at this point I would be getting on with the cleaning myself and thinking about what nice thing I could treat myself to with the saved money.

TwattingDog · 11/02/2024 14:57

Tbf they set the price, and we just wanted it done. If it went well the plan was to have a fortnightly clean with this as an initial set up really.
