Hi im taking my 8 year old daughter to Bristol to meet up with a friend. Just wondering if anyone could recommend places to go ideally in the city centre as I don't drive. We've been to Bristol aquarium so would like to try somewhere new. Thank you.

I seem to remember a zoo on the outskirts of bristol but I think there's one a bit nearer?

Parrotsgalore · 11/02/2024 13:14

Have a walk around the harbour if it's dry - maybe get the cross-harbour ferry, or a ferry tour. There is the SS Great Britain too.

@ Bristol is quite a fun interactive science museum with lots to do

Seeline · 11/02/2024 13:16

Wake the Tiger is brilliant but I think you would need a bus to get there.

I think the zoo has closed.

evilkitten · 11/02/2024 13:17

The science museum is closed at the moment.

M-shed by the harbour, city museum at the top of Park Street and SS Great Britain are all good options- and the first two are free.

there’s also the Bristol Light festival on at the moment, if you’re there when it’s dark.

The zoo has moved to its Wild Place site near Cribbs Causeway.

ichundich · 11/02/2024 13:18

We the Curious museum, the Brunel sailing ship, suspension bridge are all great for kids.

Currently closed after a massive fire quite a while back, but due to reopen later this year.

It is now called We The Curious.

ADoggyDogWorld · 11/02/2024 13:22

The zoo shut last year, relocated to outside the city.@ Bristol renamed as We The Curious - shut currently because they had a fire, reopening sometime in the summer.

M Shed is great, the Museum and art gallery has a Dodo.

The Arnolfini is a bit pretentious.

I would as pp said have a wander round the harbourside, take a water taxi for fun.

Have a great time.

Ooh and the s s great Britain was fun. Its a massive boat

M Shed
Bristol Museum
SS Great Britain
Walk around the harbouside
Take a ferry boat around the harbourside
Eat some street food at St Nicholas Market (loads of choices)
Stroll around St Nicholas market

All of these are easy to get to from the centre and won't cost a fortune.

The Suspension Bridge is well worth a visit and there is a visitors' centre. It is walkable but all up a steep hill so you might want to get a bus.
