Posting here for traffic.
Just that really, In a few months (summer weather) I am due to give evidence in court, I know it shouldn't matter but people (ie the jury) do make judgements on appearance. What would you wear if you were me.
This is a huge deal and I really want to do a good job for the victim.
I'm 43 blonde hair, fair skin 5"7 and a size 12. I normally wear Blues and pinks, look awful In Red/Yellow colours.

Honestly just look clean and well presented. Something you feel smart but comfortable in. They are listening to what you are saying, not wondering where your jacket is from.

I work in court.

Trouser suit, or dress with jacket. Hair off your face as it makes it easier for us to hear you/lip read. Speak clearly and slowly, making occasional eye contact with the judge and jury.

With regards to the evidence, don’t be badgered into saying anything you aren’t comfortable with. It’s absolutely fine to say “I don’t know” or “I can’t remember “

Sorry if this sounds obvious but it’s clear some witnesses think it sounds shifty if they can’t remember the fine details of something that probably happened a few years ago.

I would avoid black as that’s the uniform of the lawyers and solicitors.

Good luck!

What would you wear for a job interview?

whatever that is, it’ll be closer
to what you should be wearing in court

@Bluenotgreen ’s answer is definitive

Don't feel you have to make eye contact though its not essential

Old fashioned/ office

I was a witness for the prosecution recently and I honestly couldn’t tell you what the jury looked like or what they were wearing. I would definitely wear something comfortable. I wore a classic navy dress but I was giving evidence in my professional capacity as a lawyer. I actually appreciated the members of the jury who made eye contact with me and smiled or nodded as I spoke.

ChanelNo19EDT · 09/02/2024 21:08

@Bluenotgreen how would you advise somebody to avoid being rejected by either party's solicitor. ?
I've been summoned for jury duty twice, but I have never served on a jury!
Both times I was rejected so quickly. ;-/

Thanks for all your responses, I know I'm overthinking it.. it's been a long time coming though and it's really important to me.
Thanks for the suggestion of putting my hair up, I fiddle with my hair when I'm nervous so that will help.
I've got an outfit in my wardrobe very similar to this picture, is this smart enough?

Does it matter what you wear if you are a witness?

There is a chance I might have to go through this at some point in the future. I am a depressed and anxious slob. I don't own a scrap of smart clothing.
