I've bought for a friend a set of metal cocktail sticks shaped like swords (for sentimental reasons relating to a relative will mean a lot to her). I wanted to either buy or make something for her to store them in that ideally was amusing but appropriate would work too (like if it were mini-arrows, appropriate would be a mini quiver).

The only thing I can think of is a bust of Julius caesar with them all in the back - like this pen holder - but it's a bit blood thirsty/bad feng shui.

I'm really struggling for ideas and wondered if anyone had any thoughts. I suppose I could just get a nice pot but wanted something a bit better as the its special gift for her.

Could you frame them, in a mini way like old museums and things sometimes have swords mounted on the wall?

Bedazzling · 09/02/2024 21:04

A mini round table like the Arthurian legend and have them all on it pointing inwards. I hope this makes sense but as a plaque on the wall.

Get a plain tube holder for them, and decorate it to resemble a castle (rook) chess piece. You could do this with paint or a cardboard cutout to wrap around the tube.

Do you or anyone you know Knit or crochet?

Something like this (pic from Etsy)

oo these are all good. they need to still be usuable so the framing idea would need to be mini mounts - like when you see swords on the wall in the castle.

the chess piece and the mini round table are also great.

I wonder if I can find a mini one of something like this table

Marquetry round table

or take up urgent woodwork classes and make one myselt! that would look fabulous with the little handles all sticking out round the outside.

You are all so clever. I'd racked my brains but got no further than Caesar.

Exactly what I came on to say - imagine how heroic your friend will feel!! I think some clever paper macher would do it

twopencepetula · 09/02/2024 21:18

Sword in the stone! so simple but I never even thought of it! thanks@wejammin

I don't know how I'd make a stylish rock though. Fimo maybe. Not sure how to make it rock like as opposed to lump of plasticine looking.

love your crochet guy @saltinesandcoffeecups but again worry looks a bit blood thirsty/speared.

Or clay with the hole(s) poked in before drying/baking so the sword(s) could be inserted.

I was going with the cocktail theme … clearly you can see where my head is at! 🍸

twopencepetula · 09/02/2024 22:16

cocktails and their themes are always welcome in my wheelhouse!

I came in to say fimo. Or any other similar clay.

Make a rock 🪨 of whatever shape you like .Texture it by shaping/pressing it with a real rock!
Stick in the swords and before removing them to bake it, wiggle them about a bit so the holes are bigger, because they will close up a bit as it cooks.

Fimo is very forgiving. if you don’t like the rock you can squash it and have another go.

It’s also v easy to mix colours if you want a marbled effect.

wejammin · 10/02/2024 08:31

Can we see a photo of whatever you decide please 😁 I feel invested

Little shields maybe? Round ones would be easier than 'shield' shape I suppose. Just another idea which may be easier than a table or or rocks.
