To think I've been ticking the wrong box this whole time?

Booking an eye test. It asks for your ethnicity as it's relevant due to some eye conditions being linked to ethnicity. I automatically ticked "white" as I always do and have always done but wondering now if that's even the right box. My mum is half Pakistani and my dad is white. Should I be ticking the "mixed white and Asian" box? In the grand scheme of things it's not important at all but health wise, heritage is relevant isn't it?

Yes I’d be ticking the mixed ethnicity in your case.

It sounds like the 'mixed white and Asian' box would be the best one to tick in this context - there may be hereditary eye conditions they'd want to screen you for.

I would have thought you’d tick the mixed white and Asian box yes. But as you say it’s not that important. It’s also not up to me or anyone else to tell you what ethnicity you are.

I'd be saying mixed for sure OP. Like you, I tick one box for cultural stuff and another for ones about biological stuff (my body is half Arab but my thoughts are mostly British)!

Thanks everyone! I will definitely be changing the box I tick in future!

There's at least one eye condition that is more prevalent in Asian people, I know because I have it!
