To want to know how someone can ring a doorbell when there's no doorbell?

We had new windows & doors. They disconnected the doorbell.

There's just bare wires now like this. They came yesterday and rang the bell which we all heard, (came to fix the scratches on the door frame which weren't scratches but bits of silicone so am trying to save further embarrassment & avoid contacting the company to ask them)! 😂

Is is possible to make the bare wires ring like a bell?!

Ummm not sure it's possible unless the wires were touched or something to trigger it.

Touch the wires together. Your actual bell is indoors. The box they removed is just a switch.

Yes, just touch the wires together to complete the circuit and the Bell will ring

Welcome to the wonderful world of basic physics and electricity.

If it's still connected to a power source, I assume they could have just touched the bits together, as that's what pressing the bell would do. It would complete the circuit.

If it's still wired in you'd just touch the 2 wires together. When you press an exit switch or a doorbell all you are effectively doing is allowing the 2 wires to make a connection!

yes of course it is, it isn't the bell button that makes the sound.

buckeejit · 09/02/2024 13:42

Thanks!

I did wonder if they just touched the wires. But didn't want to try it in case of dire consequences! Glad I didn't email the company. This is about as scientific as my brain is ever likely to get. Will try it myself when I finish this cup of tea & maybe even buy a new button for it

I think it is called a relay?

There's your answer!

Make sure your hands aren't wet! And you're wearing rubber soles! 🤣
