Conservative Peer Lord Farmer suggesting that 'family friendly' taxation policies will cause 'families' to vote Conservative and that 'we shouldn't bow down to the single mother'.

I know it's GB news but OMG. Yet another man who can't cope with the idea that women are out there just coping and managing without a man and should therefore be punished as a result.

‘We shouldn’t bow to the single mother!’ Tory Peer calls for Jeremy Hunt to introduce ‘family-friendly’ Budget (msn.com)

I know it's beneficial to bring children up in a 'family' but the suggestion that single parent households are not actually 'family' really grates on me. And yes, it would be lovely to have a partner but I didn't ask for my ex husband to have an affair and leave me high and dry with 3 under 5 to manage. Nor did I ask him to be self-employed and maintenance dodging. Or to bring an untold number of 'step mothers' in to our children's lives. But apparently I'm the one who should be punished by the tax system?!

Yeah, that sucks. I also didn't ask for my ExH to try to shag anything with a heartbeat. I also didn't ask for him to convince the CSA that he earned £100k less than he really did. But That's exactly what happened. I'm pretty sure most single Mum's didn't embark on motherhood thinking they'd be doing it alone!!

I read this headline and found myself despising the Tory twat. He is one of that bigoted contingent who think mothers are single purely due to their own choices, their own decisions (deeply morally questionable ones, naturally).

The decisions and choices of the fathers are just airbrushed out of the equation.

My sister in law didn’t plan for my brother to die when she was pregnant! Honestly, I bet he’s never actually parented in his life, just passed any child onto a wife/nanny/slave. Yet he thinks he can pontificate!!

Jesus Christ! I'm sure most people in an ideal situation would rather be in a "traditional family" but it's usually as others have said affairs or abuse etc that causes relationships to break down...

I've googled but I can't find what his proposals actually are.

So he thinks people might be bribed to stay in shit, maybe abusive, marriages for a few hundred extra quid a year, which is all tax changes amount to on the whole? 🤔

Well quite. I suppose what he's trying to say is that we should promote 'family' as the best way to bring up children. A few tax breaks will likely appeal to those who think 'family' is only 'family' when it's nuclear. He'd get many more votes, however, if he promised a fair overhaul of the child maintenance system to include the swift and definitive resolution to the issue of those who refuse to pay /underpay/hide assets in the new wife's name due to self-employment and are allowed to languish somewhere between the CMS and the courts for years (yes, my ex, I'm looking at you) until the CMS decides it will just write off the arrears as there's little to no chance of getting the money.

The suggestion is never to go after the deadbeat dads, is it?
