To not understand TikTok Battles

So, the latest thing is apparently TikTok Battles. I was told about this as a friend’s DS does it sitting in his bedroom until 5am every night ‘battling’.
I have since delved into the world for a little explore myself!
And yes, it literally is just people sitting on TikTok for hours every day begging their ‘supporters’ to spend real money on ‘gifting’ them little animations which can cost the gifter hundreds of pounds!!! The supporters watch them for hours a day and send constant gifts!

Now the people doing the battle don’t do anything interesting or entertaining they literally just beg their team for gifts and then thank them?! The gifters are often women gifting men and the whole thing feels seedy and exploitative.

Am I missing something?!

YANBU to not understand. It sounds strange and rather pointless. What a bizarre way to spend time, and an even worse way to spend money.

I can't believe this classes as entertainment these days. I have looked (had a family member obsessed with it) and it was the most dull and baffling experience

It is horrifying isn't it? Like you, I thought I must be missing something but no, these TickTockers just sit there begging. They pretend the 'donators' are part of their team and encourage bigger and bigger 'gifts'.
Extremely rich individuals ( Jeffree Star, Eugenia Cooney for example) are given $$$ usually by young, easily influenced individuals. I believe I read recently about a young woman who took her own life because of the debt she had built up by contributing.

I’ve never looked at TikTok, Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, whatever else… I just don’t understand any of it. I have Facebook. Used it 10 years ago. All of the new stuff just seems mind boggling to me, but it seems to be modern life.

My child doesn’t look at any of it, either. I don’t care if other kids have tablets / phones etc. It’s a waste of perfectly good brain.

a family member(third cousin) earns thousands per week from this, she's 19 but looks 12
started at 18 so just over a year as she's just turned 19

she's Asian(well dad is, mums white) and dresses up like a Chinese/Asian school girl(you know the genre type)making squeaky noises and playing with teddys or Chinese type toys and speaks Chinese in a little girls voice.(i watched 10 minutes once on tiktok and turned her off)

we are Welsh btw ,she was born here and grew up here as is dad, even though dad is full Asian(great grandparents were originally from Asia, grandparents were also born here)

this drives people(well male perverts in my opinion) wild apparently

she does live 11pm to 7am on TikTok as a lot of her clientele are from abroad.

she sleeps till early afternoon or does what ever day to day business and does the same thing 5-10pm on only fans, not sexual on here either

unless she's sleeping she's on live cam somewhere posing and squeaking for hours and hours

she's made enough to moved parents, 4 kids(including her) to a 5 bedroom house and converted the attic in to a studio for this content

Wow. That’s horrific. I can totally see it happening though. The way some of these men talk to the women who are gifting them is vile too. Really is preying on very vulnerable people. I can see why young men are keen on becoming ‘tiktokers’ though and getting money and fame for doing nothing! Sad state of affairs.

I read about the young woman taking her own life too, it’s awful.

I can’t remember her name but there’s a girl who gets drunk in her kitchen every night who earns loads from it too and a blonde woman called Roots or something similar who says she earns a lot. They just seem to have a live stream going for hours on end. It’s all very odd.

I find it fascinating and disturbing. Why are people parting with their money for strangers on TikTok?! I really don't get it.

I've seen a couple of lives with people who have brand new babies. They spend HOURS on there with their baby. I think it's dreadful. Why on earth is Tiktok a priority when you have a new baby?!

To their supporters it is interesting and entertaining, though? 😉I don't judge them because we all do stuff that might seem boring to others and that's okay. I personally wouldn't engage in "activity" like that and they probably wound't enjoy colorizing tons of old pictures in Photoglory like I do, so we're even 😄

That's probably it! Either that or they want to be a part of something big and exciting but don't have time or energy to engage in real life activities and doing something on your smartphone is easier anyway.

Why are these Battles called Battles?

I was talking to my (20) dd about religion and the Ruby Franke case in America. Ruby Franke is a mother of about six children who made videos about her family. Parenting videos. Now she's been arrested for child abuse.

My twenty year old piped up that she used to follow this woman's channel. I've never felt so confused! Why would a teenager of fifteen watch videos of how some American thirty year old parents her children? I honestly can't get my head around it at all.

I came across this when that lady died, apparently she was in a lot of debt from it. It's the most baffling thing. Someone sits and begs and people think they are part of some team by giving them their real life money. The people I've seen begging are all rough as as well, like you'd avoid them if they approached you in the street so lord knows why people give them all of their money

They're called battles, because originally they were battles of skill or something that you could do "better" than another tiktokker...So like who did the best back flip, or yoyo trick, or whatever...

But now it's just like...trash talking the other one and stuff... It's morphed from a few years ago.

I think some of them make a fortune off it though!
