Landlord refusing to provide proof of deposit protection wwyd?

I moved into a HMO type place a month ago to save money to buy my own house one day. Anyway I paid a deposit which I was told would be placed into a protection scheme within 30 days.
My job offers a rental deposit loan, which I decided to use, and they require proof of the deposit being in a scheme.
However I've asked my letting agency and they say that it's 'confidential' because it also contains the deposit the other housemates paid and so he's unable to show it to me.
The best he could offer was a line on the tenancy that says 'your deposit will be placed into a protected scheme' but is refusing to show me a copy of the certificate.
Just wondering what others would do in this situation? Surely it's a legal requirement for them to show evidence of it?

Call the Tenancy deposit scheme. And ask them what a landlords obligation is

This is rubbish. My DS is in a HMO and each tenant has a certificate to show proof of deposit.

Thank you everyone! Yeah I've lived in many HMOs in my life and never heard this before.

If they didn't provide you with a copy of the prescribed information and deposit scheme leaflet within 30 days of payment you can make a claim against them for up to 3 times the value.

I've emailed the lettings agency saying I need proof, but it's been ignored :(

I mean what's even in it for them to not provide me with it?

Tell them they have the 30 days to provide it or you will take action. They will respond to that! Stop being so nice about it

Thank you everyone

Be more forceful with this, I wish I had been on previous situations when I was younger. You'll only get it in the neck from your employer if you let the EA off.

(So it won't save agro, just move it about)

Wishitsnows · 31/01/2024 20:47

Put in the claim and you will get 3 times the amount if they haven’t done it properly

Feeltherainonyourskin · 31/01/2024 21:17

Thank you, I'm determined to get a claim in now!
