My kids are coming home with really crappy colds from school literally every 5mins. No sooner has one cleared up than another one starts that gets spread throughout the house. I am SO fed up of the constant feeling like crap!!!! The last cold lingered on for weeks, we had literally a weeks respite and another ones now landed. Make it stop! Please can anyone advise on how to stop my kids constantly catching colds and if they do, how I can stop myself getting them as I am seriously run down from being up and down all night with them, feeling ill myself, working, on repeat, and I’m getting really grumpy 😂

I think it's the same for everyone at this time of year, but possibly multivitamins may help. And plenty of sleep each night to boost the immune system.

Unfortunately, Covid infections have wrecked our immune systems making us more vulnerable to catching other illnesses. What used to be a cold lasting a few days now takes weeks to recover from. I’ve never known there to be so much illness around. Sure, people would get a couple of colds on average during the winter but it’s nothing like now where people are being floored by respiratory illnesses every couple of weeks. I’ve no suggestions on how to improve this without major societal changes- you could try and improve classroom ventilation and ask your children to wear well-fitted respirators at school during the winter. Hope you all get better soon!

Very good point about Covid - since having it for the first time last year, any time I’ve caught a cold it’s been never ending and as mentioned it seems as though there’s about 30 seconds where I’ve recovered and one of the kids brings another one home! Argh!
we do all take multivits, sleep is an ongoing saga in this gaff but I live in hope one day they’ll both sleep in their own beds 😂🙄

i just have one child at nursery and it’s been the same. I think part of the problem is not being able to sleep to help my recovery as my DD wakes every hour when she’s sick and it becomes a cycle of getting more and more rundown and more susceptible to the next virus. I have been taking vitamins but can’t say it helps.

Vicks first defense for you. Horrible to take but it knocks back colds before they take hold.

Probably can't use it on the kids like.

The lockdowns didn't help. People went through a couple of years without catching a cold due to isolating and this brought down our immune systems. Now we're playing catch up.

Honestly? It feels crappy but when you are 80+ you will be glad you caught these colds now.

CruCru · 28/01/2024 20:08

I have a cold and a terrible cough (had it since before Christmas). So I do understand. But it will end.

Pineappleshakethetree · 28/01/2024 20:10

You could try virostop

They will never stop. Never ever, until they do and you think, "aha, they are finally healthy"! But then you realise they have just been saving everything for the first month of your new job.
