Malia is a party holiday - right?

DS is 17, his birthday isn’t until the very end of August.
Today he has told me 24 of his school friends are all going to Malia the week after their A-Level results and he wants to go.
He claims it’s not a party holiday and Malia isn’t even a party destination (I’m pretty sure it is) and they just want to celebrate their A-Levels.
Even if it is a party holiday I’m not against him going, I just don’t like him lying to me.
AIBU to think Malia is definitely a party holiday destination and 25 18 year olds aren’t going there for the bloody history!

It's definitely a party place but it's one of those "what you make of it" places too. There's quite a few family hotels / places too! I've got friends who go to Ibiza (which most people would consider party central!) and they don't step foot in a club. For them it's all beaches and nice restaurants, lovely villas and excursions etc.

We’ve been on family holidays to Malia a few times, as per PP it’s not necessarily a party holiday, it’s what you make of it.

25 lads are definitely not going for the local history!

I went there once "accidentally" with a mate ( it was a super cheap named on arrival deal). We hired a car and went up into the mountains etc.

In the evenings the bars were full of Brits on the lash. I ended up with a holiday romance with a British Army captain on r&r. Fond memories.

DD and 9 of her friends went to Malia when they were 17/18 yrs old to celebrate the end of exams and leaving school. They definitely went there to party as well as just spending time together before heading off to different universities.DD did say they saw lots of families out and about during the day.

We've been in May and September and it's not party central then. June, July and August.... Well, maybe if that's what you're after.

I went there after a'levels 32 years ago and it was definitely a party place then. We didn't go out in the evening until midnight and didn't really see the sun. It was quite riotous in the main street of an evening. We had fun though.

I went at 17/18 with my girl friends - definitely a party holiday, the whole strip running to the beach is filled with clubs and pubs. We had a great time!

DS1 went Malia with his mates when he was 18. He said it’s his biggest regret and a complete and utter waste of money. The day he got home he said he wished he’d never gone and has maintained that for 11yrs.

My DD went after A levels. Definitely a party place but so what?

There’s a film out at the moment about partying and sex in Malia.
