Ate moldy chicken...

So about an hour ago I bought some chicken tikka chunks and ate half the pack

Subsequently I've realised the rest of the chicken has got visible mold on it, or mold spots

What would you do? Is there a way of decreasing the likelihood of becoming ill from it?

I've tried to make sure I've eaten something else since and drunk something

I'm normally pretty sturdy so hoping it will just be fine

I think your stomach acid will deal with it if it was only a small amount !

catelynjane · 25/01/2024 14:45

There's not much you can do except cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Are you sure it was mould though? Surely it would have smelled horrendous?

RandomUsernameHere · 25/01/2024 14:58

I don't think there's anything you can do now. Are you sure it was mould though? Chicken tikka sometimes has black bits on it.

FuckOffTom · 25/01/2024 15:12

Was it in date? Did it smell ok? Are you sure it was mold and how much do you think you ate?

CatamaranViper · 25/01/2024 15:15

Surely if it was mouldy it would have stank or tasted bad.

Rather than eating something else, I probably would have tried to throw it back up to get it out of my system, but past the chance for that. Just make sure you've got stuff in the house if you do suddenly get sick. Rehydration salts, bread, sick bucket, Imodium, ginger biscuits or whatever you usually use when ill.

SurelySmartie · 25/01/2024 15:17

If it’s just mould you might be ok. It depends if there was any nasty bacteria growing in it and how much. There might not have been.

Potatoshigh · 25/01/2024 17:06

Indate, bought today. I'd assume this is mold? There was some white stuff that I'd assumed was fat but then noticed this

That does look like mould.

hazandduck · 25/01/2024 17:23

Activated charcoal tablets are supposedly good for absorbing poison. Haven’t tried it myself though.

hazandduck · 25/01/2024 17:24

Ps hope you are ok! It looks like mould to me :(

Overthebow · 25/01/2024 17:25

That’s definitely mould, how did you not notice?

Cantworkit · 25/01/2024 17:27

Activated charcoal

Cantworkit · 25/01/2024 17:28

Sorry posted too soon - activated charcoal might help

Potatoshigh · 25/01/2024 17:40

Currently okay. I'm hoping the ones I ate were less moldy!

Bleh! I've never had problems with eating dodgy food in this country but actual mold seems a step too far!

Oh dear 🤮

Rosinda · 25/01/2024 18:14

Take a photo of the chicken + expiry date and go to customer support!

34weekmess · 25/01/2024 18:19

Oh op, that's mingin hopefully you won't get bad

2dogsandabudgie · 25/01/2024 18:20

I'm baffled as to how you would not notice that mould.

Theunamedcat · 25/01/2024 18:21

You have some imodium in your cupboard right? Just in case?

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 25/01/2024 18:24

Don't take immodium! You dont want to slow down your gut and suffer any longer. The faster it's out the better. Never take immodium for stomach bugs

purplecorkheart · 25/01/2024 18:25

Honestly I would stock up on soft toilet paper. If the chicken was in date I suspect that the pack was not sealed airtight during manufacturing.

Potatoshigh · 25/01/2024 21:32

Fingers crossed all OK

OP posts:
Potatoshigh · 26/01/2024 08:13

Still ok! I did read that some of the more severe types of food poisoning take longer to progress but will just have to wait and see

OP posts:
hazandduck · 26/01/2024 13:45

Ah fingers crossed your gut can just deal with the bacteria and you’ll be fine x
