Hello all,

I am a career changer studying before I begin my new job in September. My course is quite full on, but I'm available to do a little bit of part-time work, and have posted on a local forum stating that I am available to do some ad hoc childcare (a day or so a week, a school drop-off and pick-up 1-2 days per week, that sort of thing) with a view to helping more in the summer when kids are on holiday and parents need more childcare. I don't have my own DC but have plenty of experience looking after children in my wider family and helping with my friends' DC, and I've worked as a tutor before too. A few mums have been in touch and have asked what my hourly rate is - to be perfectly honest I do not know what the going rate is for hourly childcare in London!

AIBU to ask you to tell me!?

Probably £12-£15 per hour

As I pay my cleaner £17.50 an hour (not even London) this sounds about right but you need to have insurance, dbs, first aid etc

@purplejeanie is right I think.

I have just hired someone to do similar and am paying £14.00

I’m in SW London - Zone 3/4

We pay £12/hr for evening babysitting - I would expect to pay a little more for after school if they were feeding the kids and helping them with homework etc

Thank you ladies this is all really useful - I was thinking c£14 PH as I'd be doing their tea (and I would be very happy to help with homework, housework etc)
