Builders next door WWYD next?!

Looking for some advice, very tired and very pregnant so appreciate I might be overreacting here.

We live in a terraced house and for the last few years next door to us has been empty. At the end of October 2023 builders started to gut the entire house. Prior to Christmas they were pretty good about keeping noise down before 8am, but since then, they have started banging, crashing and drilling into our adjoining wall from 6am.

It’s driving me insane. I’m not sleeping well at the moment and the extra couple hours of sleep in the morning are so precious to me.

Ive been round before when they’ve started making loads of noise at 6-6.30-7 etc and I’m met with lots of ‘sorry won’t do it again etc’ BUT THEY ALWAYS DO a couple of days after I’ve last gone round.

They don’t have vans with their business name on them so I can’t report to the council. Where do I go from here? My baby is due in a matter of weeks and I’m just exhausted at the moment so might not be thinking clearly.

Should I just leave it and hope they finish up and go away soon? Or do I just keep going round and asking them to be quiet before 8am? Or is there another option that I’m missing?

thanks!

You can still report the noise in anti social hours

Yes, just keep a log and report to the council.

Use Land Registry to find the owner of the house.

Go to the council even without the information about the builders. Part of the responsibility lies with the person who actually owns the house. I assume no party wall agreement is required for the work they are doing?

You could call Considerate Constructors. They were very helpful when I was in a similar situation.

Thank you for the helpful advice. I’ve kept a log and I didn’t realise I could report to the council if I didn’t know the company name.

Re the party wall agreement, how do I find out if they need one of those? We rent our house but neither we or our landlord were contacted prior to the works starting. They’ve done major work to next door (ripping walls out, re plumbing and re wiring the whole house, all new windows etc).

I will check out that link to considerate constructors today, thank you!
