Really sorry for the posting for traffic but I think I'm more likely to get experiences on here.

My little girl had a alveolar bone graft 10 days ago. I know there's a chance of failure with these but it has opened up a bit and some bone has fallen out. I've been to a&e twice, but with it being the weekend they aren't really experienced with this.

Have spoken to surgeon on the phone but not able to see him until Tuesday. He doesn't seem too worried but keeps saying that I knew there was a chance of failure (which I did, but it doesn't help!).

Has anyone had experience of this. Once some bone came out did the graft definitely fail?

I'm so worried, my daughter is only 8, we've been great with hygiene and the idea of her having to go through all this again is awful.

Thank you!

There's nothing you (or A&E) can do now, except wait and see. You should have a follow-up appointment 10 days post-surgery, but really they won't know if it's taken till around 5-6 months afterwards. Was it to close a fistula or just teeth-related?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. She has a cleft palate so quite a large gap in the roof of her mouth.

The hole that's opened is at right the front behind a tooth. The graft in the centre of the roof of her mouth seems to be holding so far.
