Currys price match- is it fake?

Hi there,

Currys do an online price match apparently. Over the years, I've tried to price match several times and there's always a "reason" it doesn't fit their policy.

  • that store doesn't hold items in stock, it orders it in after it receives your order
  • that store sells slightly damaged items (although the description for the shop doesn't say its slightly damaged)
  • their product has a slightly different code etc.

Anyone else find this? John lewis price match always works for me although they no.longer offer it.

AIBU?

Yes- currys price match works and you've bought stuff successfully
No- I've been told they can't price match too.

For context, this has been for an lg 55" c3 TV this time they're selling for £150 more than other retailers.

It has to be in stock at the other shop ..

Why don't you just get it from the other store though? Curry's don't have that great customer service like JL !

CormorantStrikesBack · 19/01/2024 07:00

I didn’t actually know they offer this. Interesting because their Remarkable tablet is about £150 more expensive than buying direct even though Curry’s have a poster by the tablet proclaiming it to be the cheapest price you’ll find…..which is obviously bullshit.

VisionsOfSplendour · 19/01/2024 07:03

Why don't you just buy it from the cheaper shop? Why does it matter?

I'm missing something, aren't i

Is there a reason you can't get it from the other shops, like buying from the actual shop rather than online. Curry's is often not the best customer service and many actively avoid them.

ThomasTrain · 19/01/2024 07:06

I absolutely hate Currys. They are an awful business and I honestly don't understand why people buy from them. I will never give them my custom ever again.

If it is cheaper elsewhere buy from the other provider. You probably won't regret it but if you buy from Currys you just might!

BobnLen · 19/01/2024 07:07

Richer Sounds and JL are better for TVs

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 19/01/2024 07:09

Just use the cheaper shop. I recently bought a dishwasher, used their website to read up on it and read the reviews then purchased from elsewhere for over £100 less. Currys are over-rated and their staff are useless!

bombardelli · 19/01/2024 07:55

No, it’s definitely a thing. There are some rules, it has to be matched a bricks and mortal retailer or a UK website but I have used to buy a TV and iPad.

billyt · 19/01/2024 08:07

Currys will only price match if the code matches their code exactly. And quite often they have a curry specific code

Never buy a TV from Cyrrys.

First stop ALWAYS Richer Sounds. Staff there always know what they are talking about and great warranties/service.

TriceratopsRocks · 19/01/2024 08:10

I have used their price match successfully too, but it was several years ago. I actually seem to have a different experience of Currys to the rest of you though. I have had several good experiences when returning something faulty (they have just exchanged for new - even when it was a 6 month old phone). I have had bad experiences returning faulty items to other big name places (Amazon and Argos in particular, and a friend had an awful experience with John Lewis), so I now choose to buy from Currys where I can, because they are the retailer I trust.

RadiatorHead · 19/01/2024 08:20

If they’re using something like this to weasel out of a promise which they’re using to lure in customers then it shows their true colours. Therefore you don’t want to give them your business. If they’re being difficult now, imagine what they’d be like if you tried to claim on a warranty or something?!

Yes, I guess I wanted to buy from a place I've heard of (friend had an awful experience of paying £1500 on a scam website and tv wasnt delivered). But think I'm going to check out reviews and risk the other websites. Yes, I've had bad customer services on a diswasher delivery, where they wouldn't connect it as "it would take too long". Despite me paying extra for the service. They left me with a washing machine that wasn't connected. Husband sorted it and they refunded installation but was so busy with work, it was a but annoying. I think I'll be avoiding currys then. Wasn't sure if I've just been unlucky.
