Ds1 is at uni and says hardly anyone vapes and those who do are considered a bit pathetic. He says you rarely see anyone vaping around campus.

drinking on the other hand..

BlondeFool · 16/01/2024 23:03

Yes sadly

Lizzieregina · 16/01/2024 23:03

Yes and I’m not happy about it, but they’re an adult, so I don’t get to stop them. I do however preach about it at every opportunity!

Enko · 16/01/2024 23:04

4 young 20s children none of them wape and not aware of their closest friends doing so either.

user701 · 16/01/2024 23:05

Ds2 says vaping is for 14 year olds. He says there is a lot of it amongst the kids at school in year 9/10 and then everyone realises they look stupid and that it’s really bad for them. He says hardly anyone does by sixth form.

PriOn1 · 16/01/2024 23:06

My son smoked and then vaped. I think he’s given up now, though it was difficult as he’d done it enough to be addicted.

Two other children, neither of whom have ever done so.

NotDonna · 16/01/2024 23:06

No albeit I know one of mine has tried it.

Bluewallss · 16/01/2024 23:08

@user701 😂😂😂😂 I’m 25 myself and know a few people still in uni, this is jokes.

Thebookdragon · 16/01/2024 23:08

I’m on my 20s. Most people I know vape to some extent. I’ve recently quit. Most people I know who vape their parents don’t know unless they were ex smokers.

MirandaWest · 16/01/2024 23:12

Neither of mine do.

That's really odd. Why would grown adults be hiding it? Are you suggesting our children are doing the same?

It isn't a joke. We had a conversation about it only last week. He said that you very rarely see anyone vaping on campus or even on nights out. It's in contrast to what you would see in our local city centre where you do see groups of younger/mid teens wandering around vaping. He said it's generally thought to be a rather stupid thing to do. This is a very high ranking campus university which is known to be quite outdoorsy and sporty so that will no doubt influence perceptions and the approach to health.

The only people I know personally who vape are my sister (who previously smoked) and my 23yo nephew (her son) who doesn't work and spends most of his time in his room playing on his xbox drinking cider and smoking/vaping. I don't know a single person in my late 40s social circle who vapes.

StillEatingXmasLeftovers · 17/01/2024 09:28

I have a 20 year old and 15 year old. Neither vapes, they think its for losers. My son is at uni and says it’s rare to see anyone vaping. Weed and drinking are common. I agree it seems to be the 14-16 age group that vape here, but it’s mainly the troublesome kids. Hopefully they’ll give it up as they mature.

Zingy123 · 17/01/2024 10:13

Absolutely not. They are revolting and stink.

TiredBefuddledRose · 17/01/2024 10:18

My 21 year old vapes, she used to smoke so at least she's no longer doing that.
She's trying to cut down on the amount she vapes but has ongoing physical & mental health problems so this is kind of bottom of the list as it helps her regulate her emotions.
Health problems are not vape related.
She's also a regular gym goer.

I have 2 14 year olds who do not vape and think it's the lamest thing ever.
However it would seem a lot of their peers outside their immediate friendship group do including much younger children.

Rockshore · 17/01/2024 10:24

Yes my 21 year old does - never in our house though and mostly just socially. She also has a degree and a good job so is far from a loser.

I dont really like it but I smoked from when I was 14 on and off until I finally quit 2 years ago so I'm in no position to judge 🤷🏻‍♀️

BigPussyEnergy · 17/01/2024 10:31

I have 2 late teens and an early 20s. None vape or smoke, all think it’s gross - we were out for a walk the other day and my 19 yo said how jarring it is when you smell vapes out in nature, that it’s offensive to him that their habit encroaches on our fresh air. So I’m confident they’re not hiding it.

DD17 has said that smoking looks cool AF but it’s a shame it stinks and is gross, so again, pretty sure she doesn’t/wont smoke. I’ve always said I’d be more disappointed in any of them smoking cigarettes than weed. If you’re going to smoke at least make it worthwhile.
