Could this be scarlet fever? DD gone to A&E

DD is in reception. Her teacher called me at lunch time as she wasn't feeling well and her face had become red and blotchy. I collected her and took her to the pharmacy on the way home for some advice from the pharmacist. She was in good spirits just tired.

Pharmacist said it was likely viral but to have her checked over if it got any worse or spread. It was just her face at that point.

It has got considerably worse since then and has spread to her chest and back. She developed a fever of 39.8 that hasn't responded to calpol. She said everything hurts. I felt her chest and her heart was beating quite fast.

DH has just taken her to A&E.

That might seem a bit extreme to some people but I've had iGAS from strep A when I gave birth to her and almost died. She was 3 weeks old before we left the hospital. I think we are both still a bit traumatised about it.

Does this look like it could be scarlet fever? I know you can't diagnose from a picture and she has already gone to A&E. I'm just really worried and don't know what to do with myself, stuck at home with my other two DC and trying to stop my mind going back to that place 5 years ago 😔

Please be kind.

Thank you all. It's v reassuring to read about others accounts of SF being okay.

RE slapped cheek, gosh yes I didn't think of that. It's possible, and definitely preferable to SF.

@Sapphire387 How is your daughter now? Hope she's doing well. Don't forget to ask MN to delete the photos.

Hi, thanks for asking.

DD is fine and has been provisionally diagnosed with Oral Allergy Syndrome by the paeds at the hospital, so the PP who suggested an allergic reaction was right.

It was the two oranges she had at school that set it off, they believe. The rash responded to antihistamines. A&E have referred her for an allergy panel / testing so we can know for certain what she can no longer have (potentially all fruit atm)

She also has a virus of some sort, hence the temperature, and a cough as developed today, but they weren't worried about that once they ruled out Scarlet Fever.

So relieved 🙂

Ah, good news about the scarlet fever, although I'm sorry to hear about the allergy. Taking her to A&E was definitely the right move.

I hope she's feeling better soon.

My DS just had SF and it presented as tonsillitis first - swollen tonsils, pain, yellow spots. He then got the fever and the sandpaper rash which is really distinctive. It looks like red goosebumps.

Hopefully it is slapped cheek but honestly he was fine after the antibiotics.

Hope your daughter is okay

On a side note I don’t think posting photos of her face and also of her naked body is something you should be doing - she can’t consent to this and there are obviously sick people online. Maybe it’s worth deleting the naked one.
