To ask if anyone who has IBS has found that having Covid triggered it?

I don’t know for sure if I’ve got Covid but I’ve had diarrhoea, cramps and lower back ache as well as the usual symptoms but no fever. Just wondering.

My mum just had these symptoms with covid in December. You're not alone.

Having any virus (not just covid) will often give me an upset stomach. Even a cold.

Oh yes. And then it continued for months. About 6 months. That was fun....

I have had IBS for a few years before covid but after I caught covid I had the worst flare up I have ever had and it lasted quite a few weeks.

Interesting thread.
I was ill end of last year, did test for COVID but negative but apparently that isn't uncommon.
Got a chest infection so had antibiotics and since then I've had awful trapped wind, stomach ache and horrendous back ache, I wondered if it was IBS as it was worse when I ate wheat based food.
I also read that IBS is usually triggered by another infection.
My symptoms are ok as long as I watch what I eat now.

I’ve had IBS ever since Covid

WithIcePlease · 15/01/2024 18:43

Yes but no previous IBS
It was a nightmare
I was tested for coeliac disease
Lasted about 3 months after covid
I was so bloated that I looked pregnant at times and my skin on my abdomen was really taut and I don't normally have any bloating
Dreadful nausea
Variable appetite due to above symptoms
Heartburn and water brash

Happens in about 10% of cases I think I read at the time
