Matched Betting?

Just wondering how many do this and do you make a decent amount each month, although I realise that it is not as lucrative as it used to be. I have had a dabble but got disheartened and gave up, is it worth getting back into it again?

Only if you can afford to lose the money you are gambling

scorpiogirly · 15/01/2024 15:11

That's the beauty of matched betting, you don't lose any :)

It's not gambling

Trib · 15/01/2024 15:17

I did it a couple of years ago, it was good to make a bit of extra money fairly quickly, but the deals dropped off fairly quickly and became only once in a bluemoon.

Spot the person who doesn’t know what matched betting is.

I think it’s considerably less lucrative than it used to be @scorpiogirly - I stopped in 2019 and it was slowing down a bit then as I got gubbed and offers stopped and I just couldn’t be bothered with all the faffing for a small return.

NoodleNuts · 15/01/2024 15:41

I made about 7/8K in about 18 months before the gubbings started and the offers dried up. I left it all in the pot to use on other bets though, I didn't take any out each month really.

Bobbotgegrinch · 15/01/2024 15:52

I did it for a few years when there was a lot of good deals about, made about 6k off of it.

I lost interest when I bolloxed up a bet and lost about £400 because of it. Was still in lots of profit overall but that somehow broke the spell for me.

I looked at it again recently but the deals just aren't as good, seemed like it'd be a lot more work for the same reward.

I also wouldn't recommend doing it if you enjoy gambling. I've got two friends who tried it and lost money because they wouldn't bother matching the bet when they thought a match was a "sure thing"

TheThingIsYeah · 27/02/2024 11:28

It's ok for a quick few hundred quid, but you have to have your wits about you when laying off the bet in case you mess up. And of course the odds are constantly shifting so you can't be dithering either.

You soon get gubbed, so I'm lucky to make £100 a month. The bookies mantra seems to be "When the fun starts we stop"

I like the free bet builders, I don't bother trying to lay those off, if I win, great, if not I've not lost owt.

HappiestSleeping · 27/02/2024 11:30

It always struck me as too much faff for the reward.

@AlexTheevil would this site be suitable for absolute beginners? I'd love to try and make enough money to pay off my credit card. I've read all about matched betting but I suspect that actually doing it would help me get the hang of it.

Tisfortired · 01/04/2024 07:57

I’ve been doing it almost exactly a year. In the first month I made about £500, then about £100 a month and now it’s probably about £50 a month. Better than nothing but like you say not as lucrative as it was! I did try to get into it when it was at its height but it went over my head at that point unfortunately 🤣

I also don’t do any of the things like 2ups or casino, just literally bet and gets and the good boosts. Im on the matched betting Fb group and people on there claim go make 100s of every month but I don’t know how.

NobbyNobbs · 01/04/2024 13:15

@AlexTheevil can you DM me please!

Matched betting can be a mixed bag. It used to bring in decent returns, but as you said, it's not as lucrative now. I've tried it myself and found it a bit disheartening at times. Whether it's worth getting back into depends on various factors like time, effort, and risk tolerance. You can make a decent amount through online games also. It's all about finding what works best for you.

WickerMam · 15/04/2024 11:31

I do think these days you need to be quite careful, and active in online communities to avoid getting stung.

I made £2k in 3 months, on the bus to work a few years ago. I stopped after a few gubbings, as the effort needed for the remaining small reward became not worth it. Also, I didn't want to do casino - too dull.

The government cracking down on "irresponsible" gambling means the offers have dried right up. Also, I think bookies are really quick to gub these days - it's really obvious if you are matched betting really, it wouldn't take much data analysis to pick it out. From what I can see on Facebook groups, they seem a bit bolder about closing accounts and refusing withdrawals on that basis. It can be a pain appealing etc to get money back.

I certainly wouldn't leave any money I needed in a bookies account for long.

fashionqueen1183 · 15/04/2024 11:38

I made about £3.5k and my friend made about 4. Over about 2/3 years.
But then I got gubbed from everyone so can’t really do it now. It was great while it lasted!
I did do some casino offers they probably made me about £500.
Some websites you’d get £10 just for opening an account. Another friend got really into it and has made about £16k off casino!

@Tisfortired do reconsider doing 2ups, they used to be quite lucrative when I was MBing (before I got gubbed). Plus if you're in an active group it's quite social waiting for them to come in!

I did it in 2019/20/21. Made around 7k before I lost too many accounts though I understand the value in it has really dropped off now. Keep thinking I ought to go through my accounts and check if I've left anything in any of them 😅

kuvduvod · 18/07/2024 15:45

I've tried matched betting before, and it can be profitable if you stay dedicated. Admittedly, it's not as lucrative as it used to be, and that can be discouraging. I've found that consistency and adapting to changes in the betting landscape are key.
For me, online gambling on platforms like Slot77 Online has been a more enjoyable and reliable option. They offer a good mix of games and betting opportunities that suit my style.
If you're considering getting back into matched betting, maybe start with smaller bets to regain confidence and see how it goes.

Some bookies have started restricting accounts quicker, so it's not as easy as it used to be. Keeping bets looking like normal gambling helps, but it's not foolproof. Checking reviews like https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/bonusbuyslotsuk.com before signing up is always a good idea. Also, always double-check terms on free bets—some have sneaky conditions that can trip you up if you're not careful.

Penguinsmum · 28/03/2025 12:50

I made about 8k in 2019 to 2020. It's not as good now but still worth it if you have a bit of time and want to make a bit of money here and there. And it's not gambling!!!!!
