Should I go ' all in ' to potty train my 21 month old ?

Sorry to call him 21 months old. But maybe it's relevant. He'll be 2 at the end of April.

He's been making some moves towards potty training by himself. He has a big sis and sees her go to the toilet all the time and is very interested in what happens there.

He's able to pull his nappy and trousers down. He's in pull ups, just because I prefer them and they're easier to put on him and leak less.

Anyway he says ' toilet ' and has successfully done a poo there twice now. He also has a potty, but has not mastered doing a wee there yet.

I've done the bare bottom training technique a couple of times and had no success. Although I was able to catch him mid wee twice yesterday and place him on the potty. It's exhausting though and I wonder if he'll actually grasp this at nursery as well.

My DD didn't show any of these signs, but she also had no older sibling to look up to in the same way. I want to try but also fear it's going to take ages and I don't have the energy.

I know someone who potty trained her daughter before 2 but her DD didn't go to nursery. It took ages and was a lot of hard work.

I waited until all mine were ready and the whole thing took 1 week.

Oh christ no - don't make life hard for yourself. Wait till he has a bit more understanding and when they are ready, it should be a super simple straightforward process.

Had the same in terms of having a big brother and being interested but for us the first time we tried the bare bottom approach at 19 months it worked. I did it in a holiday so we had a week to get it and partly did it then as I knew we wouldn't have that time at home again for a while. There were quite a few accidents at nursery (partly due to distance from garden to toilet with outdoor clothes to contend with) but they were really supportive and it was good to be done with nappies. I think it is more about having a good time to do it rather than age
