NO SOLUBLE PAINKILLERS. CAN I CRUSH COCODEMOL IN WATER

I have severe back pain right this instant due to a large ovarian cyst. I have cocodemol but can't swallow as it makes me vomit. Tried a half tablet and I vomited. I'm in severe pain and don't know what to do.

Can I crush the cocodemol and put it in water?

I don't have any soluble painkillers so this would be my only option I'm desperate to take them but can't take them as whole or even half tablets.

Signed up to this site just now so i can ask as it's 3.50 am and don't know what to do

Thank you in advance ❤️ 🙏

Won't the water just make you vomit too though?
If not, make a concoction of crushed tablet in warm water and just drink it. It's no different to swallowing the tablet with a drink, all ends up in your stomach.
Hope you manage to get some to stay down and give you some relief.

Thedogscollar · 14/01/2024 04:10

Yes you can but it will taste awful. Can you put them in a yoghurt or jam and just swallow them like that?
Sorry you're in pain. Hope you feel better soon

I realised after posting that yeah it will. Maybe I'll just crush them nd oyt them in and see how far I get 😅

Thank you X X

Should be okay - usually there will be a warning on the information sheet if you can't. You can try mixing it with honey instead of water - it's usually strong enough to mask the taste

Adviceneededasap234 · 14/01/2024 04:15

Waters the safest bet aha 😅 I'm in a lose lose situation lmao but thank you ❤️

In this situation I have taken children's liquid ibuprofen

ScribeSev · 14/01/2024 04:30

Crush it and put in yoghurt or some sort of pudding

Adviceneededasap234 · 14/01/2024 04:32

I wish I had yogurt or something like that. Sounds like a good way of doing it. For the minute I've crushed two and out them in a cup of water 😅 tastes nasty but I can't afford to be fussy atm aha

Can you drink milk? That can make it a bit easier to get horrible tablets down.
If you really must crush the tablets, can you mix the crushed tablets with a bit of yogurt and swallow that?
It won’t do any harm to crush co-codamol. They’re just revolting. The tablets you mustn’t crush are those with an enteric coating - the packaging tells you if they have this but co-codamol don’t have it.
Are you on prescribed tablets with more than 8mg codeine? If not you can buy soluble co-codamol that have 8 mg codeine. Doesn’t taste great but I used to put Ribena in it to help me get it down.

FictionalCharacter · 14/01/2024 04:33

Sorry, was writing that before your update

Adviceneededasap234 · 14/01/2024 04:35

I daren't try milk with my stomach the way it is these days tbh.

Yeah mine are prescription ones 30mg/500mg

Crush it, put that in water in a small glass and stir it well. Pinch your nose shut while you down it. Have a nice tasting drink on hand for you to have a mouthful of straight afterwards.

ScribeSev · 14/01/2024 04:40

Do you have any rice pudding? Tinned fruit maybe ? Honey ? Treacle ?

ScribeSev · 14/01/2024 04:40

Hardly

namechanger563 · 14/01/2024 04:48

Try eating something soft that you like, I thought my DS to swallow tablets with a Jaffa cake when he was 6. He has sensory issues and had refused liquid meds from 12 months old. You just chew the food as normal and when you are about to swallow, pop the tablet in with the food so it masks an immediate taste. It's all solids and will go down easier than mixing a solid tablet with water.

For the future, you can ask for the brand Zapain as it has a gastro resistant coating that makes it easier to swallow. I can't take non coated co codamol.

You can also buy empty capsule casings from Amazon or eBay and cut/grind your co codamol up so it will go in a capsule. This is safe, I've done it many times. The only risk is actually with losing some of the dose as you are grinding it. You can also buy a pill cutter with built in grinder.

Awake too due to pain btw, I feel you!

Adviceneededasap234 · 14/01/2024 04:55

So I just crushed them and mixed them with honey. Can confirm it tastes just as vile as the water but was definitely quicker. Fingers crossed they kick in asap 🙏 😅😅

Well done OP sorry they still tasted like poo 💩

I get prescribed Zapain which goes down fine so get those in future

They usually take about 30 mins for me

I also have gabapentin

I have sciatica which hurts the most when I'm lying down or sitting for too long

When I go to bed I take 600mg of gabapentin and 2 x 30/ 500 mg Zapain it doesn't last long tbh and I wake up in pain soon after

quisensoucie · 14/01/2024 06:37

Do you have a physical reason you cannot swallow a tablet?
