What is this pain!

Last Sunday after dinner I had awful stomach pains - just above navel that would shoot out to my back on both sides. It lasted 9 hours getting worse and higher up my abdo, was sick a few times, until it eventually wore off. Now every time I eat I’m getting terrible pains in the same place, although not as severe as the Sunday night attack, still awful though. It doesn’t matter what I eat, even something small.

Ive been taking buscopan and paracetamol every day and hardly eating yet my stomach is bloated.

regular bowel movements?

Lionsmanez · 13/01/2024 09:48

Yep, everything seems normal.

It's not quite the typical location for something gallbladder related but sometimes pain moves around a bit/it can be difficult to know where the pain is coming from. I had my first attack after eating one night and then it was grumbling away after that until I got the thing removed.

I’d say gallbladder. I put up with intermittent pain for over a year till it was so bad I couldn’t walk. What a mistake! I went to visit a friend and she was up all night with me. We thought I was going to have to go to hospital. Go to yur GP

Thank you. I think my main concern is I’m already bordering on underweight so restricting my food isn’t going to be great but the pain it’s causing makes eating miserable

Definitely GP. If it helps, I found I could eat plain pasta (dried, not fresh) and toast with marmite (no butter) without too much trouble. Xxx

Sorry, random xxx because I was simultaneously writing a message to my best friend!

Sounds like gallstones to me.

Lees83 · 27/06/2024 10:31

@Lionsmanez Did you ever find out what this was? I have the same issue

IndigoHexagon · 27/06/2024 10:35

You’ve described fairly classic gallbladder pain.

caringcarer · 27/06/2024 10:42

Yep I agree it sounds like gallbladder pain. Try 2 days with just water then very bland food for a couple of weeks. I found cheese always made my gallbladder pain worse. Sadly now I can only eat occasional tiny amounts of cheese. 😭
