Should I get a doctor's appointment for this?

Bit embarrassing but I think I have a weird gastro stomach bug thing... I've never had anything like it before and I'm not sure if it's a normal bug or something else.

Woke up Sunday night in excruciating stomach pain - felt a bit like gravel in my stomach and seemed worse when I moved around - it went away by morning mostly but still comes and goes, lots of aching in my left side all day.

Since then I've felt shivery and achy (but no temp) and really nauseous but worst of all I am literally needing to poo tiny watery amounts every 20/30 minutes and cannot keep off the toilet and sometimes can't even make it that far!

I've been taking cocodamol for the pain.

I'm actually feeling really low and want this to be gone now. Last night I pooed myself 3 times in the night 🥹

Phone the GP and see if you can get an appointment. Failing that try 111 for some advice.

Sounds like a gastro bug. I would give it some time to settle .

YireosDodeAver · 11/01/2024 10:36

I would call 111 and go through their checklists. If it's just a gastro virus it will be self-limiting and you just need rest, fluids etc at home, the GP can't do anything and if you went to them you would infect them and damage the health of hundreds of other patients. However the checklists that 111 use will help indicate if there might be other issues that need investigating.

I’d take Imodium to stop the shits right away and stop you shitting yourself. People on here don’t like Imodium so I’ll get slated for suggesting it. But if you want to stop your shits, you need to take it

This sounds like it could be something like campylobacter. The stomach pain, the awful diarrhoea and the aches/shivers all ring bells for me. Given that you've had this for four days now, I'd consider calling 111 or speaking to your GP.

Call your GP. Sounds beyond normal bug.

Personally I’d stop taking cocodamol - it upsets most people’s stomachs pretty badly.

Imodium works to stop diarrhoea, but it doesn’t actually stop the cause of it, you’ll just pause it and get hit worse later if you have a bug.

Codeine is bad for the stomach so stop the co codamol, also if there is any chance you have campylobacter definitely don't take Imodium.

I made that mistake and spent 3 days curled up in bed with labour pain level stomach cramps.

Thank you all. I have had a 111 referral to a pharmacy and spoken to the pharmacist and he's given me some rehydration sachets and some immodium to take tonight. Instructions are to see how I go for the next 24h.
